Updating LineageOS 16.0 for microG via TWRP + feature test

Thank you. I was looking for a page like that but just couldn’t find it.

Ah, good old festival. Yeah, that is open source… and very old [1]… and the quality is… subpar, to put it friendly.

Okay.

Update Installed via custom TWRP 3.2.3 … although currently no luck with encryption.
TWRP 3.3.1-0 (Releases) seems to have trouble with encryption in general.

  • lineage-16.0-20190708-microG-FP2.zip (Changelog)
    • Security patch level:
up to date (Settings - Security & location - Trust)

    • Vendor security patch level:
out of date (Settings - Security & location - Trust)
1 April 2018 (Settings - About phone - tap on Android version)

  • send SMS / receive SMS
  • internet via WiFi
  • internet via mobile network
  • location
  • compass
  • screenshot
  • main camera (new module) works correctly with Open Camera, stock camera App not checked, didn’t operate the flash correctly last time I checked.
  • main camera (new module) video recording
  • selfie camera (new module)
  • selfie camera (new module) video recording with stock camera App not checked, worked correctly last time I checked, Open Camera records only black if surrounding light is too dark or changes into too dark while you move.
  • USB connection to PC / MTP
  • alarm (no alarm sounding with volume set too low.)
  • MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.12
  • Root access (Settings - System - Advanced - Developer options - Root access)

Just a FYI. With LOS 16 + microG + latest TWRP I did a clean install without encryption. Then I enabled encryption. LOS updates work, flawless (not in the very beginning). The only issue I got is that I need to mount from terminal + OTG + USB key if I want to install say Magisk. Cause for the life of me I can’t find the sdcard mount point (if it even exists). In the past I needed to do the same for the LOS update.

At long last, there’s an OpenWeatherProvider for 16.0 at https://download.lineageos.org/extras, but I didn’t try it yet.

Edit 1 day later: It works :+1: .

Think its 2018, isn‘t it?

We all would be happy if not, right?

Don’t install lineage-16.0-20190827-microG-FP2.zip, as it will not boot, because it is based on a regular LineageOS build which doesn’t boot.

Can also report LOS with microG works once more, like a breeze. Just had issue that my microSD was not recognized after boot, and device was hot. After putting it off for a while and starting it, problem went away.

In case anybody wonders … the 20190910 build is still at Security patch level 1 August 2019, so if you are on 20190908 there’s one less reason to bother.

Have you tried (Mira)cast recently?

No. I would have to go look whether I even have a device to test this with.

Edit: I’m not able to test this.
My AV receiver doesn’t do Miracast. And my Samsung TV (2010 C-Series) could perhaps do it with an additional App, but the internet is inconclusive about this, and I make it a point to not hook my TV up to the internet anyway.
As I don’t have a use case myself, I’m not motivated enough currently to get a Miracast dongle only for testing.

:warning: If you are updating to the new version of microG (2.9) via F-Droid the location services will stop working and microG starts to crash.

I hope it will soon be solved, because I cannot revert the update
