The 3G signal from my local transmitter was switched off yesterday, so have to use 4G calling. Caller ID no longer works so I called Three to be told there was nothing they can do and that I need to change my handset.
I have a suspicion that this is not a problem with all networks. Can anyone confirm that and, if I’m correct, which networks caller ID works with?
Maybe I misunderstand… Are they saying your phone is the reason caller ID doesn’t work, even though it worked before they made changes to their network?
On good advice in that forum, I picked up a 3 SIM - believing this to be a major network that FP would have negotiated VoLTE access with. It does allow me to make and receive calls (and I presume SMS) if I have it set up for 4G calling (not otherwise).
However, all received calls have “Unknown Caller ID”, which actually makes it impossible for me to use (I have to have my phone on permanent DND with exceptions for vital family numbers - who now cannot get hold of me).
Is the Unknown Caller ID a separate problem (it pre-existed the 3G switch off, and it comes up in other threads, including one I reference in the above thread, so I assume so)? Is it simply that the FP3 is obsolete?
It’s not only Three issue. Giffgaff has just the same problem. I note that the same problem does not exist with other branded handsets on those networks.
I now have moed to Vodafone. Vodafone and Fairphone 3+ are compatible and caller id works fine. It would be really useful if we compiled a list of compatible pairings. Do we have the same problems with FF4 and FF5?
The compatible pairings list exists and is compiled by Fairphone in the linked support article (also for Fairphone 4 and 5).
So for every pairing which might work in practice outside of this scope it might be worth to point out that this is down to luck and/or carrier goodwill, is not guaranteed to last, and once it might stop working neither Fairphone nor the carrier in question would have any obligation to fix it.
The word compatible for this situation might imply something which isn’t there.
Just to confirm both 1p mobile (EE) and Lebara (Vodafone ) still display caller ID on the FP3. Both have reasonable rates (debatable on your personal requirements) How long this lasts is something I can’t answer. I can say your FP3 is not finished … just yet anyway. Do a duckduckgo search to see when 3G will be switched off on EE and Vodafoam.
