Sailfish OS 3.0.3.9 beta6 release

Sailfish OS 3.0.3.9 beta6 release is now ready. Installation and update instructions can be found at Adaptations/libhybris/Install SailfishOS for fp2 - Mer Wiki. Highlights of the new release:

  • Updated to Sailfish OS 3.0.3.9
  • Based on Android 6 (18.04 release)
  • Fixed random failure to update camera configurations when installing or updating Sailfish OS

Important notes for updating from old Sailfish OS releases (3.0.1.11 beta4 or older)! Because of enabling on-demand proximity sensor support all users can now flash the modem partition from Fairphone Open OS 18.04 release using fastboot. Please check wiki for detailed instructions.

Important notes for updating from Sailfish OS releases before 2.1.3.7 (alpha5)! Please be very careful when during update about flashing the Android system.img. During update process Android system.img needs to be flashed right after updating Sailfish OS and shutting down the device. Do not flash system.img before Sailfish OS update.

Known issues:

  • If anyone still notices the previous issue that updating camera configuration fails during camera module change, update or installation please report it to me and use the fix mentioned in previous release notes (Sailfish OS 3.0.2.8 beta5 release)

Is this a known problem?
Working with the phone is not possible when the error occurs.
I have to reboot the phone three or four times, then the error vanish for a while :-(.

Many thanks for your constantly FP2 support :-).

Gabriel

None of those messages you showed are actual errors but instead quite normal messages from devices suspend/resume. One possible reason for touchscreen issues is proximity sensor issues but that shouldn’t happen during usage, just when turning display on. You need to provide more logs.

How often does the issue happen? Is there any special you are doing when that happens? Is device connected to charger or computer or anything? I haven’t had any problems with touchscreen with 3.0.3.9 release.

Many thanks @mal .
It seems to be a HW problem. The error also occurs with fp android :-(.
The rapidly printing of the messages at journalctl was a indication for that.
But before i reflash the phone i was sure that it is no problem on Sailfish known :-).
Thank you.

@gabs Maybe try to remove the display and clean the pogo pins and contacts and see if that helps?

I disassembled the phone and take a look to all connection pins.
They seems do be clean and fine.
So i get in contact to the support and they told me, that it seems that the core module fails :-(.
Now i need a new one, but i did not find it on the shop.
I hope that i can order it from the support …

Reseller Vireo sold the core module separately for quite a while, but they are out of stock now.
If it ever was available in Fairphone’s own shop, that was only for a short while directly after the Fairphone 2 launch.
Afterwards, Fairphone only offered it as part of a repair job, and they still do …

https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/211437743-Fairphone-2-repair-price-list-and-FAQ

@gabs Even if the pins and contacts look good cleaning might be good idea, but it still might be a hw problem. My other FP2 had all kinds of issues because of bad display connection.

@mal i cleaned all contacts with alcohol, i lifted the contact springs, nothing helped :-(.
The support tells me that i have to send my fairphone back to repair.
The minimum repair cost would be €223.43 and €59,- for assessment, shipping and handling.
So i also can buy a refurbished one €299.00 (with two years warranty).
Self repair is not possible :-(. core module is out of stock …

Even when Vireo still sold it, it was sold for 275,- EUR when the phone cost 399,- EUR (and for 339,90 EUR when the phone still cost 529,- EUR).

I just did the upgrade and it seems to work ok, thanks @mal.

The phone did reboot at about 71% when it was installing the packages. The battery level was at 70% and USB power was conencted, so that shouldn’t have caused it. When i picked up the phone is was pretty warm, so maybe it’s termperature related?

A quick progress report. I have now been using test build of Sailfish OS 3.1.0.12 for FP2 for a few days without any noticeable regressions. If all goes well I will release the version soon. I’m thinking whether to finish the proximity sensor calibration app before that which might cause some delay for the release.

Hello @mal,
any news about 3.1.0.12?
Btw. Are there any plans to support FP3?

Many thanks

gabs

Sailfish OS 3.1.0.12 beta7 release is now ready and the usual release thread for it is at Sailfish OS 3.1.0.12 beta7 release.

I’m also interested in porting Sailfish OS for FP3 but we’ll see if/when that happens.
