I will document this here, and it seems to be different to the other problems, as it is not restarting, it just turns off. Not shuting down properly, just — zapp — off. Roughly every 20 days (I will document that from now on).
I have my Fairphone 6 since 2 months and 15 days. It has shutdown three times. I had to manually turn it on again. Maybe the second time it turned itself on without interaction … I am not sure.
The three situations:
2025-10-16 I was trying to take a photo, using the camera app, changed from one camera to the other, fiddled around with some adjustments and then zapp, off.
???-??-?? I don’t remember, but I know that I was doing something completely different.
2025-12-01 Without any interaction, I had just woken up and had turned the flashlight on, walking around with the screen off but the flashlight on. Suddenly — zapp — phone was off.
A day later I started noticing, that after that turning off and my manual restart the battery lasts again much much longer. I hadn’t even noticed. But now I notice how super slow the battery goes down, even when I use it. It was more normal before. So maybe there was a process running all the time and finally crashing the phone somehow. Perhaps I am just imagining the reduced battery consumption; I have not measured or documented anything in this regard.
I think this is a different problem than those two, as my phone is not rebooting (just turning off) and especially not several times a day:
Same with me! I have the FP Gen6 since July ‘25. The problems I experience is 1. shutting down all by itself every now and then, 2. not reacting for half a minute or so when touching or tapping the screen. The phone has been to the repair centre of FP in France and all they did was an update. That did not solve the problem. I have sent the phone back to the webshop not knowing what to do now: try a new FP6 of buy another brand.
I had the restarts for a few days after reinstalling Android, but then they disappeared. I think Android just needs to settle down a bit to run stably the first time.
Maybe it is a problem with the battery, or the software steering the battery level? Meaning that you get shown wrong battery levels, and you use the phone until the battery reaches 0% and simply switches off. I had a similar problem with my first semi-smart phone years ago.
I have the fairphone 6 for 7 days now. Two times I found the phone switched off. One time while using the flashlight two days ago. The other time just a few minutes ago. It was in my pocket and was turned off. Battery is 41%.
Should I send it back?
Not sure if related: While charging on a strong.charger the phone heats up quite a lot. Is it normal?
I’m also experiencing the same problem. I have the phone since early December and it happened at least three times now. I think this is a serious issue, since the phone doesn´t reboot, meaning you’re completely offline without any indication. You only notice when you check your phone, it could be off for hours.
I have experienced 1 incident after 2 weeks of phone usage. My phone was running version 15.151 at that time.
I installed update 15.162 yesterday. I propose reporting further incidents here and specifying the software version, so that we can track whether it has been fixed. I wish FP were a bit more open in their public communications.
I’m running /e/OS 3.2-a15-20251022539003-official-FP6. I contacted Fairphone support, and was advised to update to v.15.162.0, like you did. I wasn’t actually planning to do this, since it implies a complete roll-back to Fairphone OS. In fact, I think it is useful to know that the issue occurs on different OS versions. I might rather be a hardware issue.
Same problem for me. Although it never turns off when I use it. But every once in a while I take it out of my pocket and realize that it is off. It seems to happen more frequently lately.
I don’t think it is a software issue related to the battery, as one can turn it back on without an issue and keep using it, so the battery is charged just fine.
My Fairphone turned off yesterday again. Without using it, it was just in my pocket. And when I tried to use it, it was just off. I had to turn it on and everything worked as normal again.
So this time, the time between turning off was a little bit longer, but I had to restart it in between for some other reason. Maybe that was the cause for it to last longer without turning itself off this time.
My new fairphone 6 is powering off when not in use and I am not turning it off. I come to the phone and it will not show it’s screen and I need to turn it back on
So I’m counting at least 7 users experiencing this issue. Did all of you contact Fairphone Support? I’m not sure if I would send it in for repair, since the issue is so sporadic, the odds are high that the result is ‘no problem found’, and I just would be without my phone for an indefinite period without any benefit, like in this case:
Using FP6 and e/os 3.3 for couple of days and just experienced the sudden power off. Unfortunately, especially after reading this thread, this makes the device unusable as the daily driver. Should I check the device every x minutes? Pixel and GOS probably the next step.
Oh no, it just happened again. It turned off. I had used the mathematical calculator before for an hour or so, calculating a lot of things. Then I was walking into another room. The screen was off. I put on a jacket and then wanted to check something on the phone, but it was off. I’ve had the phone in my hand the whole time. I had to turn the phone on manually.
Doesn’t feel good as this has happened only a few days ago. I thought it was every 20 to 30 days, but this makes me nervous now.
I have never talked to support. But as I’m publicly logging all incidences here, I hope to get better help in the future.
Hello
in order to avoid any misunderstanding and potential frustration - this is the community forum - for users to share advice, discuss the news and help with some basic troubleshooting.
In order to receive Fairphone company support or influence future software patches, one is expected to submit a ticket.
I can imagine it is tempting to leave a comment here and there, but please treat it more like a community brainstorming, visualising or so.
However, it’s not recommended. It is better to charge slowly if and when possible. You can do that either by using a low-power (1 to 2 A) charger, and / or with
Settings > Battery > Charging mode > Eco charge
