I have the exact same issue at the moment. The fingerprint sensor stopped working after rebooting. Before the reboot I was unable to use my fingerprint in my bank app but was able to unlock the phone using it.
Thanks for the response. If I would have to guess, my interpretation of the message would be the same as yours.
Now, I am currently not using the fingerprint sensor, but of course I might eventually. Or I would like to sell the phone some day, and then it should be fully working.
So if the sensor is indeed broken (how could I test this?), how could I repair it? (And why doesnât the message tell me this? It is really awful how this is handled.)
I assume that is a result of the mentioned situation where an update broke devices because either did not know their reader is broken or they ignored it. This message know makes you aware its broken and asks you to repair it (open a ticket with FP and send it to their repair portal). Still the message and the repair button are odd. @Fairphone_CM would you kindly get some details internally and explain this?
Reporting also the unreliable fingerprint sensor.
I tried choosing cancel and/or repair. The settings existed for a bit while the fingerprint was not working, now they are gone but sometimes I am able to unlock the phone. I canât persuade my banking apps it is working, yet.
I would rather have no fingerprint than no phone at least while I am away, so will keep reporting.
I am linking the other topics on fingerprint issues for FP5, in case it is not update relevant.
Edited to say that it was impossible to submit a ticket via the self-repair portal - the only option that followed the proper troubleshooting was sending for a repair. I could perhaps just use the form then but not sure if that makes much sense.
My FP5 lost all of its Bluetooth pairings after installing this update last night
Nothing âmission criticalâ but it does mean that I now have to remember to re-pair with everything when they are in range and turned on (e.g. my car, my partnerâs car, the headset at work, stereo at home, etc).

Correction: the BT details disappeared after preparing the update FROM FP5.VT2M.C.084.20260128⌠the update should have installed FP5.VT2P.C.089.20260311 but failed for some reason. I restarted the update to VP2P, it worked, but the BT pairings are still missing.
Is there any information on this available? What is the message meant to say?
I tried researching about the issue, but I am still lost what the message means and what the state of my phone is. I donât know if my fingerprint sensor is broken and I would really appreciate a response to this in order to know how to proceed.
In particular, is it safe for me to install further system upgrades? I am on VT2M and have been holding off further upgrades because there are reports that system upgrades can brick your phone if your fingerprint sensor is broken.
Could you please point me to how I can do this? I found the internal tests after some searching in the Fairphone app, but it is not clear how to use it to test the fingerprint sensor.
Thanks. I find two fingerprint-related entries there: âFingerPrint Rawdataâ and âFingerprint Enrollâ.
For both, nothing seems to happen. The app just shows the start screen again (text âFP5 MMI Test âŚâ with green âPASSâ and the two buttons at the bottom). It doesnât seem anything is tested, I am not even asked to try the fingerprint sensor. Did I overlook the entry?
If I search for âfingerâ in the settings, I get the entry âadd fingerprintâ. If I press it, nothing happens. If I press it repeatedly, I am told that the settings app has terminated repeatedly.
That seems more like my sensor is broken?
Now, I have read that for repairing it, I need to backup the phone as it will be wiped. I understand, but how can I backup my phone completely? I only found a way that involves uploading the whole phone data to Google. Clearly it can not be required for a warranty repair that I have to give all my most personal data to Google? That is completely unacceptable.
