sorry to hear your phone or simcard do have problems connecting to a network.
please check if your simcard is less than 2 years old, if older please ask your provider to send a new simcard.
something you can try if none of the staps in the link above work:
Settings → systeem → options to reset → reset network.
please be aware that this will permanently remove the network settings on your phone.
normally you provider will send the required settings automatically to your Fairphone after the reset.
Bisher kam meine updates relativ zeitnah.
I can confirm this. Neither with a Deutsche Telekom SIM card nor with a Vodafone SIM card am I offered the update. Now it’s no longer 4 days but already a complete week that has passed since the release. There has been no reaction from Fairphone either, as a customer you are left completely alone again…
The last employee who was actively involved in the discussion a few months ago no longer exists (see @anon1128606).
Are we really going to beat this drum every time an update rolls out?
Fairphone has done their part. The update is out there. And now the isp overlords take wheel. Even IF Fairphone had any form of communications, what would they say? Nag each ISP in Europe and get back to us with a vague “yeah Orange said they’re looking into it, deutsche telekom didn’t respond, and bob from Vodafone asked what’s a Fairphone?”.
Sure, we had that situation last June, where the Android 14 update took an embarrassingly long time to get rolled out by ISPs. But in FP’s defense that was the rare times they did step in and say they’re looking into it.
Not getting the update the same week? Ehh fine. Two weeks? Annoying. Month? Okay then maybe it’s worth bringing up.
And to those who have an unlocked bootloader, you SHOULD be able to manually install the update. (They publish the files on their website right? citation needed).
As it has been explained several times, even by Fairphone employees who no longer exist:
The ISPs do not receive any test devices from Fairphone, do not test anything and also withhold exactly nothing. At Fairphone, appropriate ISP compatibility tests are carried out internally and as long as these have not yet been completed or errors have occurred with certain providers, Fairphone will not release the update for these devices/provider configurations.
The fact is that Fairphone has it completely in its own hands and as long as Fairphone does not solve this aspect of their support problem, they rightly belong in the pillory on a regular basis.
In the past, when some providers sold branded devices (customized start logo, pre-installed software, provider-specific configuration), these branded devices actually had their own firmware, which was not updated as quickly and frequently as the same firmware for unbranded devices. This firmware was developed by the manufacturers, but only released after testing and approval by the ISPs. Those days are long gone and do not apply to the Fairphone 5.
I dont think it was ever confirmed by anyone from FP that network provider arent doing any tests. As on the other hand we have provider who confirmed they are involved in testing, can you link the statement you are referring to?
Not needing to approve is different to no do tests.
Over the last two years that I have been reading the forum, there has been a lot of information, often between the lines, where Francesco (no longer a Fairphone employee) has confirmed exactly this.
Exactly the same has been reported by several users who have asked their providers why the update is being held back and all providers have said the same thing: we cannot influence the firmware release process at all.
There are dozens of examples over the two years. If you’re really interested, ask Fairphone for details and let us know. I can’t wait to see when you get an answer from the excellent support team…
If this information is incorrect, it would be easy for Fairphone to clarify once and for all. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time…
To be fair hehe, I don’t disagree.
I guess my point is more about why are we even surprised every time?
We should devise a community system to let forum users know updates are often staggered. Might reduce the complain posts. Let them know it is “intended” behaviour. It will come. Eventually.
The only we can say is: we cant exactly say what is happening when and with which provider as we just dont have the full picture, and sometimes provider tests can hold distrubutiom and sometimes not.
Two hours ago, all FP5s with an eSIM from Deutsche Telekom or Vodafone were still blocked for the update 8 days after the rollout.
I found a workaround and installed a free eSIM on my FP5. After deactivating my Telekom eSIM and activating the new eSIM, the update was found immediately after searching for the update again and installed smoothly (without restarting the FP5).
For the last two hours, my FP5 has been working perfectly via Telekom-5G.
I find it alarming that there is no communication from Fairphone regarding blocked providers either in the 1st post or now after a week.
If the tests with certain providers have not yet been completed or problems have arisen with certain providers and these are therefore still excluded from the update, why do you have to make a secret of this?
To prevent Fairphone from blocking the provider I found in the future, I will only respond to inquiries via PM.
3 weeks and no update with Telekom and counting…
Is there probably a bug again in this update with the Telekom that they don’t want to admit and block this, like about a year ago?
