Contact your provider Let us know what they said. Contacting FP support will take months to get a reply, so maybe donāt bother.
I installed the update with a change of SIM to a 1&1 SIM (only for the update). I use this update since weeks in the Deutsche Telekom Network in rural and city areas with many frequency combinations, and have no problems with the Telekom Network. So i donāt think that there is a problem.
For the sake of it, I contacted my provider (using Deutsche Telekom network) and Deutsche Telekom directly today. There is a thread in German in their support forum already and the support promises to help at least: āFreigabe des Sicherheitspatches für Faiphone 5 | Telekom hilft Community
Letās see if and when they will get back with an answer. I will try to remember to post it here.
7 posts were merged into an existing topic: FP5 Usb transfer greyed and not working
Deutsche Telekom claims to block the update only for phones they sold: They use the IMEI of their sold Fairphones to provide an own version of the update.
I bought my phone from Fairphone directly, now using a SIM from a provider that uses the Telekom network. Yet, I still dont get the update. According to Deutsche Telekom support, that must be done by Fairphone themselves then, without involvement of Deutsche Telekom.
All in German, but at least public: āFreigabe des Sicherheitspatches für Faiphone 5 | Telekom hilft Community
Now the next step would be to contact Fairphone support I guess. Currently not motivated due to months waiting time
Fingerprint reader stopped working after the update for me.
I see you found the topic, please dont duplicate the discussion and follow-up in this topic
Wouldnāt it be a great function for the more or less unused fp app, that is on any phone anyway? Just add a button like ālook for latest updatesā to give the user a chance to manually pull the latest update with WiFi directly from fairphone.
Like @janweiss I bought my FP5 directly at fp and still donāt get it.
Hi @all,
iām basically happy with my FP5.
But there is one issue, that keeps me up at night: the missing / late updates on critical security updates.
Currently on my FP5 i didnāt get any update since March even if there are new updates available on the Fairphone site. I already did many reboots, changed DNS Servers on the phone, deleted my eSIM card (btw. iām on Vodafone). No luck.
I donāt want to reset the phone and kill all my data / apps and settings. Did anyone have had this problem too and found a solution?
Ideas are welcome too! - I did also open a support case, but didnāt get any responseā¦
Thanks for your time and help! - Best regards,
piccolo
In which country do you live and who is your provider?
Did you check if the updat is available for you:
Go to the app Settings,
Go to System
Go to System update
Tab below on the right on Check for update.
Donāt get sleepless nights, just live with it.
A smartphone with Android gets monthly updates at best, but this is still as horrible as Microsofts patchday.
And the patches do of course only include what has been fixed, not all the bugs known.
So just be aware that you phone is vulnerable - always!
Hi Lidwien,
sorry, that i didnāt mention: i also triggered the manual update search various times.
I mentioned in my original post that my provider is Vodafone but the fairphone is unbranded and bought from the fairphone website.
My coutry is Germany countrycode is DE.
In the developer settings on the phone the automatic updates are āonā.
Thanks and regards,
piccolo
Hi bjoern23,
thanks for your post, but thats not acceptable. Iām aware that phones are always vulnerable, but if there are updates available on the fairphone site and security fixes available i also want those on my phone. Especially when the vulnerabilities are actively being exploited and are already publically known.
Greetings,
piccolo
As you mention DNS, did you disable everything that could block something? With Vodafone you should have the update in DE, only Telekom user did not get it so far
Of course it is unacceptable, but this is how it currently is. The only secure phone is one that is turned off.
What I wanted to say is:
The devices you had were never secure, but I guess it never happened anything. So, stay suspious, but calm. And sleep tight at night.
The FP5 in Aachen, borrowed from Fairphone, is still not getting this update either (I just tried once again). Google updates keep coming and installing.
I believe that the issue is still the update blocked from Fairphone for Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone DE: Telekom confirmed that they block the updates for Fairphones they sold (using the IMEI) to check them themselves, and two days ago they also confirmed that they still did not publish their version for their customers.
As for those who use Deutsche Telekom or Vodafone networks without having bought the phone from Telekom (like me) the update is also still not available. I assume: Fairphone blocks the update for those customers, waiting for the confirmation of Deutsche Telekom that the update works fine. That is not confirmed, but I asked the Fairphone support about it, I will let you know once they get back with an answer in a few months (at least for future reference, I hope by then we got it).
Vodafone DE? Did you try removing you SIM and adding a SIM from a provider that is not Telekom or Vodafone yet? Then it will probably be available. Maybe you can borrow one from a friend
Google recommends at most 90 days, so you donāt need to worry too much for now!
This is also probably the carrierās internal deadline to get it sorted so hopefully they can figure it out.
Hi Jan,
i tried deleting my eSIM and install the update in plain mode with wifi.
But even that didnāt work.
Sadly all my available SIM / eSIM cards are Vodafone or T-Offline (Telekom)
Greetings,
piccolo
Just deleting/ taking out the old SIM is sadly not enough, the provider is somehow stored until a new SIM is inserted/ added. Try to find someone to borrow you one for a minute if you need the update.
90 days since March 5th are due since 6 days now. Phones used with work profiles that allow max. 90 days like recommended from Google are blocked for a week already
