Software update: FP5.UT2P.B.122.20250422

Hi Jan,
a colleague of mine got a O2 card and i was lucky to borrow it from him.
I inserted the SIM and deactivated the Vodafone SIM and it worked! I’m currently on the latest may update.
A shame that you have to switch to another provider to install the security updates.
Thanks for your help!
Thanks and regards,
piccolo

Out of curiosity:
Security updates should be different from system updates, which date did you see there?

Now it looks like your screenshot. Yesterday the google security level was March. But i dont remember the google system update patch level version i think it was April.

now that FP has managed to bring june 2025 patch update level to FP4, maybe they are starting to take matters seriously and can keep up the pace and spread security fixes to all the products currently in support. would be a nice surprise for a change

Finally I got the update: I took out my Vodafone-SIM and changed it by a blau.de-SIM - and the update from 5th of May is on my FP5 now. Connectivity with my hearing aids (streaming of music, listening to phone calls and adapting their volume) works fine. I’m really happy!!

Hello, just a quick question:

Is there any way to install the UT2P.B.122 security update without infecting installing the Gemini garbage feature? :grinning:

Might not be enough for you, but have a look at the penultimate paragraph of this Fairphone blog article.

Access the Settings menu on your device, and scroll down to the Google submenu. From here, click All Services, and then Search, Assistant and Voice. Here, you will see the different digital assistants available on your device and the option to switch them off.

I don’t know, but you can turn all of Gemini off (allegedly) in settings.

When I did this, (there was no option not to have Google Assistant unfortunately) it asked me why I was going back to G Assistant from Gemini …

Thanks for the responses @urs_lesse & @moonyarn.

That’s a shame. Right now I have no ‘assistants’ installed and I resent having to install one in order just to switch it off (and do I trust an arms dealer search engine with a long history of being sneaky not to be sneaky? I do not).

It’s time for me to try installing e/os.

Maybe you want to rather go for IodeOS or CalyxOS

Oh FFS!

Thanks for the response though @yvmuell, I appreciate it - you’ve saved me a lot of time.

Thank you very much indeed for this hint.

As it turns out, O2 offers a free SIM. They call it “Freikarte”. Mine was in the mail after about a week and you don’t even need to finish the SIM activation procedure to make it actually usable. It’s sufficient to have it in the SIM slot and the installed eSIM disabled (not deleted). The updater loads the 122 update right away.
I chose to leave it in for the next FP update with the activation all done afterwards but you can also just put it in a drawer.

Available for Deutsche Telekom network users since yesterday

This serves to collect and commercialise more user data.

You only call up ChatGPT (and start the programme) if you want to use it. It does not listen and read all the time.

Good that you start to get more familiar with the LLMs. Gemini doesn’t listen/read your activities all the time by the way. But that’s a bit off topic.

Still not available for Vodafone/Germany.
I really appreciate the workaround suggestions but I wonder, if there might be a reason for the delay?

My Fairphone 5 is the first I got but with the Fairphone 6 about to be available I ask myself if the software support for FP5 will even get worse…
