Hi everyone,
I checked on the forum, and it seems many have problems with their sd cards not being recognized on their FP2. I have the same problem as here: Samsung 64GB SD-card not detected after every reboot
My FP2 is running under LineageOS 17.1, and I have a SanDisk Ultra PLUS microSDXC UHS-I 128 GB, formatted as external storage. I checked here: ✏ List of compatible microSD / SDXC cards for FP2 and under LineageOS it is written that this card works, although for me it didn’t. I checked in a computer with SD card reader and it works very well.
I checked and the card is formatted in FAT32. So I tried formatting it in exfat, but it didn’t change and I let the phone format it again in FAT32.
During a few days, I could use the trick of taking the card away and inserting it back, but it now doesn’t work anymore. Each time I boot the phone, the card isn’t recognized, and the phone tells me there is a “problem with SD card”, and asks me how I want to format it (internal or external storage).
Does anyone have a clue to solve this issue? Do you think it is due to LineageOS or to the phone? (Edit: I doubt it is due to the OS as others like @cyra have the same problem under FPOS, though with other cards. Perhaps a problem of compatibility then?)
I am going to check what happens when I format it as internal storage, but it is not really how I want to use it.
Otherwise I suppose I can try under FPOS or FPOOS to see if it changes anything. Edit: I’m going to update Lineage as well to see if there is any difference
Thinking about it, the problem doesn’t come from the card, nor does it come from a lousy or loose connection with the phone, it really comes from android, since I don’t have any problem to do my backups through TWRP on it.
Well… In fact, yes. I just wanted to do a backup and TWRP wouldn’t recognize the card. “Unable to mount storage”
I also tested the card on another smartphone, a Samsung A70, and it worked without a single problem.
So could it be a hardware defect? My core is brand new, it was changed by the repair team a few weeks ago…
Anyone has the same problem? Or an idea? I’ll probably contact support after having tried what I said in my first post:
Since you are on LineageOS it should be as listed SanDisk ULTRA micro SDXC UHS-I 128 GB.
You have written SanDisk Ultra PLUS microSDXC UHS-I 128 which can make a difference in compatibility.
Actually it’s no misspelling or misprint, both types can be found and there is surely a slight difference.
I have started with a Samsung Pro+ replacing it with an Evo+ due to troubles with Android.
Having such troubles when testing with a card reader on a computer usually don’t show.
It’s a mobile/OS thing. Hence SanDisk specifically brand their compatible cards with A1
to declare them compatible with Android. Still there is the internal reader chip and type of OS.
My previous Samsung Pro+ works fine in another LG G4 also on Android6.
At last it’s best to format it in the phone for maximum compatibility, not necessarily as internal storage for elsewhere here previously discussed reasons.
Hi!
Thanks for your answer! Indeed, I hadn’t seen this “PLUS” difference… Though it seems strange to me that it is a compatibility problem, since the card works once out of three. So it’s not completely incompatible. At the beginning, it worked, i was able to write files on it, and TWRP worked very well. How come I can sometimes miraculously make it work, and sometimes not.
Because when I boot the phone, either I get an “Error with SD card” which stays and asks me how I want to format it (and it works until I start it again), or this error stays only one second and then it works. Perhaps my error would be better described by Needs formatting more than once instead of Card not recognized after a reboot.
But then it still can be a problem of compatibility I suppose. Should I buy another card?
Same with mine. Once it was recognized it worked flawless until I rebooted again. One never knew when it would work again or not being recognized.
My assumption, the more recent sd cards may not work properly with the FP2 which was designed in 2014.
The provided compatibility list is a good help here. I would rather decide for a slower model as the FP2 controller chip does not seem to utilize the full speed here anyway.
U3 type would be a waste money and performance. Many of them may rather cause troubles than operate reliable.
Yep I suppose. And I’m not going to buy a U3 anyway
My brother has the non-PLUS version of this card (so the slower one) in his FP2 and it works, so I suppose I’ll try to find one
If this works for me I’ll mark it as the solution.
I would not state this as a general rule. Some has troubles, some not. Just with everything else. I don’t have any and after having replaced my first sd card all went fine with it.
Time and development moves on. Try to find compatible ram memory for a computer more than 5 years old. If you find some it’s probably much more expensive than modern ram or you even have to go second-hand.
But I think for sd cards there is still enough selection for older types and also prices has dropped significant meanwhile.
I know. I haven’t said the contrary. It is already wonderful for the FP2 the be still working and maintained while many others don’t anymore. The FP2 is old. And although it is true that most people don’t have any problems with their FP2s, I think the rate of people who had at least one problem is higher than other phones. But indeed, I can not say it with certainty.
This is another debate that was already seen on this forum, and I don’t think we need it again.
