Mobile data connection breaks after few minutes using dual SIM

Same problem with Proximus SIM et e-SIM (Belgium)… recently it happen.

I have a physical sim card and an esim card. When both are activated, if the physical card loses the network (5G, 4G, etc.), the reconnection doesn’t work. I have to disable the esim card.

If the esim card is not activated, the network reconnection on the physical sim card works fine…

What happens if you set the physical sim card to 4G etc, instead of 5G etc,?

Actually I was caught by a very annoying malfunction, which has been described rarely here and here,
The eSIM looses the connection and there is an exclamation mark in both(!) field stregth triangels in the status bar. Reeboot won’t help, flight mode won’t help, the only workaround is to disable and enable the eSIM. This happens sometimes one time a day, sometimes every few minutes, and dis- and enabling the SIM while driving a car is no fun.
The phone worked well for three years with a SIM by puremobile (a vodafone brand), and an eSIM by Vodafone. Now I got a new eSIM by Telekom, this causes the error. I reinstalled the eSIM without the physical SIM inserted, but after reinserting, the problem happened again.
The provider, as always, says, the problem must be the phone, not the eSIM.
The funny thing (if there is one) is, that the Internet status screen shows “connected”, while in the background the exclamation mark is spotable.

The “solution” in one of the above mentioned posts was to buy a Fairphone 5, the other one had no solution. So my question: does anyone have a clue, ho to solve it, or any kind of evidence, that this is a provider problem (this seems quite obvious to me, because it started with the new provider).

Moved your post here

Found this thread, but the fist postings are about another issue, because in these cases, a reboot helps, but not for me. The further described cases seems more like mine, but I’m not sure if it is good to mix these different problems.

As there is no solution and different workarounds mentioned above, I do not think we need a new topic

Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply; I wanted to test it before doing so. In fact, if I deactivate the 5g access on the physical card, the problem disappears…

I have exactly the same problem (two Proximus cards - Belgium). So the problem is really linked to the phone or its software.

No, the problem is linked to 5G.

Just a supplement: this problem for me occurs first by changing the e-sim (and the provider). Before, it worked fine for three years. I’m afraid, in this thread there are several different problems put together. So I propose to sort out a bit with different details.
For example:
Reboot: helps/helps not
Flight mode on/off: helps/helps not
SIM deactivate/activate: helps/helps not
Problem: from the beginning/after changing the e-sim
Problem: from the beginning/after changing the hardware-sim
shift to another provider/new e-sim from the same provider
status before: two different provider, same provider for both
status after: two different provider, same provider for both

Especially the three first items seem to be very different root causes.

Because you used another provider before.

For Germany it still seem to be connected to Telekom in my eyes.

Overall I will not split this into 6 or more topics needing to clean and move around within 6 topics from now on. Please accept that we collect the information for this issue here in 1 topic.

I don’t want to split it up, but to answer these questions might even help in one thread.

For me:
Reboot won’t help
Flight mode won’t help
SIM deactivate helps (time to again being disconnected between some minutes and several hours)
Problem after changing the e-sim
same provider for both before (vodafone)
new provider for the e-sim after (Telekom)
SIM is 5G-able: no
problem only occurs on 5G for e-sim: Yes

Hello together,

I can just confirm what I see here and I think I have the same issue. I can’t tell since when it’s bugging me, but sure for many months already and some updates (I hoped it will be solved, but seems not like it - right now I have android-security-patchlevel 5th march 2025).

I also have Dual SIM, im my case with 2 SIM-Cards at the swiss provider Swisscom. Because of all the mobile operator already mentioned I don’t think theres a connection with the provider, I also had this issue while travelling to other countries. Sometimes the phone just looses connection. It shows than the “3G”, but in fact no mobile/data connection is there again. And after a while it reconnnects.

  • Reboot: sometimes helps, but sometimes i can do multiple and the problem just consists.
  • Flight mode on/off: sometimes helps, but sometimes just not.
  • SIM deactivate/activate: doesnt help (maybe sometimes, didnt tried this too much yet)
  • Turn off 5G or even 4G: doesnt help
  • Reset APN-Settings: doesn’t help at all and were right already.
  • Problem: since months, can’t tell since when excactly. Hoped for a long time it will be solved with an update.

Is it possible (workable) for you to set only 1 SIM to use Data?

I would say that this is another issue. In my case I can say for all items definitely yes or no, never sometimes. And turning off 5G helps definitely for me.

I deactivate mobile data for the SIM, but no change. The only working two things are: de/reactivate the eSim (helps for some time, sometimes some 10 minutes, sometimes for hours) or setting the eSim to 4G max, that works permanently.

Hi,
With my fairphone 4 my datas don’t work well. Sometimes it’s working and then no… Without reason .

Any ideas?
Thanks

I assume you are referring to your mobile data.

Have you gone through the Fairphone troubleshoot?

Also what is your data provider?
