Format Android external SDcard in Ext4 to create a big luks ciphered container in it

Did you already notice that your SDcard remains readable everywhere even when you asked to cipher your phone ?

Here is an How-To I wrote to create a luks ciphered container in your SDcard :

It requires to use mke2fs directly on the phone, and then EDS Lite from F-Droid.

When you adopt the SD Card as internal storage it gets encrypted automatically (with dm-crypt). That’s much simpler.

Incorporating the SD card into Internal Storage has its own set of risks. You have one potential problem less if you can avoid doing that.

I like the idea of being able to tell on which chip my data is, and so knowing what I’ll be able to save from a failling phone

Another approach is to create backups regularly or to synchronize important data to a PC (e. g via syncthing) - or doing both.

But creating a LUKS container is a creative solution to a real problem. Well done.
