Fairphone 6 - camera zoom does not function

Yesterday I received a fairphone 6. With default android installation the camera works fine, including zoom.
Today I installed e-os for FP6. Everything went well, except that zoom does not function for the camera. The option is there, but it does not zoom in or out. Switching between different camera-apps doesn’t change anything.

Thanks in advance for helping out!

Just a preventive warning: if you intend to reinstall Faitphones OS, do not lock the bootloader, there seem to be a bug somewhere causing a hard brick at the moment

Nor does video recording with 60fps or higher.

It would be fantastic to have the Fairphone camera app available on e/OS. Or for the Fairphone team to help the guys over in Murena to make their app fully support Fairphone’s 6 camera.

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Fairphone 6 with /e/OS preinstalled directly from Fairphone.

I’ve been testing the camera and I noticed that zooming doesn’t work when taking photos. I checked the camera settings, but I couldn’t find any option to enable or use zoom.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi All / I have the same issue .. just can’t get it … I just receive the fair phone 6 / everything is great …exept the camera zoom .. it seems to be here ..(icons) ..but I can’t use it ..nor with the buttons or finger /swipe..(a bit annoying ..
for a +600€ phone ..meaned to be the best iPhone alternative )
…if anybody have a clue to fix it ..?? maybe an update to come ..soon …??
thank you for your help …

This seems to be a known, common issue with /e/OS on the Fairphone 6.
I would recommend taking a look and keeping an eye on this topic over on the /e/OS forums.

A developer at Murena stated it will be fixed with the 3.1 release of /e/OS.
FYI: I am on the latest /e/OS beta (3.1) and it is not working there yet, no zoomies.

I have the same malfunction …

Good news, the latest release candidate has working zoom. The update is only available from the test channel but a stable release is right around the corner. If you can’t wait, you can connect to this channel via Android’s Developer options (see screenshot). But be aware that these updates are not fully tested, so one might run into issues.

Here’s a direct-download in case someone wants that for flashing:

EDIT:
Just tried Gcam, zoom works here too.

EDIT2:
New Release Candidate is available:

I have the same problem with /e/OS 3.0.4-a15-20250708507307-official-FP6

It’s a shame to sell a phone with such a price without all the very basic features… The problem has been known for over a month now and has not yet been solved…

The problem is solved for a while now, just update /e/OS!

According to last update 8/8/2025 camera zoom is still not working for me; to be sure I restarted the phone. However, other major problems like no brightness change was solved.

Errata: I wrote last update was 13/8/2025, but it was last check… my bad…

There’s still no update for me. It says 8 July and no new updates, but maybe it’ll be available soon. Really hoping for a camera zoom fix!

My bad, I thought there was an official release for v3.1.

You can download the latest beta manually if you like and you should be able to apply it via the updater (tap 3 dots & local update). It has working zoom & is very stable for me…

Alternatively join the test-channel, see my post above if you wanna know how.

Same issue here. I just got my fairphone 6 with e/OS preinstalled from murena. The phone is on e/OS 3.0.4 which is the latest version (as at 2025-09-02).

The other issue (so far…) with the camera is that it does not seem to recognize and decipher QR-codes. Both of these issues are obviously not acceptable for any phone nowadays, let alone a phone in this price segment.

I tried the e/OS test channel suggested by @Switch and installed 3.1.1-beta.4 (2025-09-02). This fixed the zoom but the camera app (the native app that came with e/OS) often freezes.

What this didn’t fix is the QR-code reading which still does not work.
