Just as a reminder: this is a known issue by Fairphone. It is listed in their Public Issue Tracker. The status is “under investigation”.
Is it a good idea in any case to send a message to the support team about it? That maybe helps to bump up the priority of the issue for the development team?
For me, the issue is related to a Verico 128GB MicroSDXC UHS-I U1 Class 10 card, but my old SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC UHS-I Class 4 card works fine. That’s the two cards I can test right now.
Hope, Fairphone looks into compatibility issues as well, when they check this!
I just want to mention that we also experienced this during our local community event on 7 May with a regular FP6 on the latest Android OS.
Pictures taken were inititally accessible on the phone (in the camera app), but were nowhere to be found on the device just a few minutes later. Had to re-do the exercise with a different FP6 (on /e/OS and using the /e/ camera app/Open Camera) – that’s the source of (most of) the photos in the link.
Adding to the confusion, the first FP6 did not show the same error some days later during our 16 May event (I did hurry to copy all photos taken to the SDXC card in the device immediately, but they are still in both places now: internal storage and card).
so the pictures in first place existed (you could open them) and later vanished? Or did you just assume its saved, because you saw the preview in the camera App? if they really existed (you could open them) in first place this would be a different issue as discussed here in my eyes and I would split the issues.
I am not sure anymore about accessing them via the apps FILES or PHOTOS but I know for sure that I could access them – filling the whole display – through the preview in the bottom left of the camera app (marked red in this screenshot)
so I would say we have 2 different issues, maybe still the same root cause, no idea. Do you remember how you accessed the camera, from lock screen or after unlocking the phone?
Pictures are not at all saved from the beginning. More often happening when Camera is accessed from lock screen. However can also happen under different circumstances, for me e.g. when I take a picture of an animal and the AI scene detection recognizes the animal and shows the corresponding pictogram. I see the preview picture however its not possible to open it and in the gallery is a black “picture” with a yellow error triangle…
Pictures are taken and somehow saved/accesible at first and whyever vanish afterwards.
Definitely not from lock screen and not after unlocking the phone. I launched the camera from its icon in the bottom right position on the regular start screen.
I might have even shown the pictures in full screen landscape orientation to the others who were on the photo. And quite sure I swiped through them (from preview). The pictures never (re)appeared and they are still missing in FILES and PHOTOS ever since. No Google account nor login on this device, but an SDXC card (the missing photos did not show there either).
I’d like to share an observation regarding my FP6. I’ve had the phone since June last year, and quite often I’ve experienced that photos simply disappear.
What I’ve noticed is that this seems to happen when the AI features are enabled in the camera settings. If the camera recognizes the subject (for example, when I photographed my dogs and the AI correctly detected them, I saw small dog icon on the phone), the photo sometimes never actually gets saved.
After taking the picture, when I go to the gallery, the image is not there. If I switch immediately from the camera to the gallery, I can briefly see that the photo is “processing,” but it never completes. After a while, the process stops and the photo just disappears.
I had the issue today. I was trying to take a picture of my cat. Four attempts. In each one the phone is unlocked and I’m in the camera app. I took the picture, I tapped on the picture in the camera app where I can see it says ‘Processing’ with a spinner at the top. While I’m looking at this the photo completely disappears and is then not available in the camera, in files or in Google Photos.
Just to add: I took a picture of my couch just to see and that photo saved fine, so it does seem to be related to the subject pf the photo and possible AI processing.
I assume AI scene detection is enabled and identified an animal? When AI does not show the animal pictogram, pictures are properly saved for me, however not when AI kicks in…
The new update didn’t fix the missing images issue for me. It still keeps processing after creating the image, but then the processing gets interrupted and the image doesn’t get saved.
Can you please confirm how exactly you enter the camera App when this happ3ns, which camera you use, if you use Zoom, if you use AI scene detection etc.
I used zoom2x with AI detection, and I took a photo of my dog and the AI recognized my dog (small dog icon on the left side) .I entered in the app from the main screen
If I don’t let the camera app open a good minute after taking some pics, they might not record to the memory. Which is a behavior I’ve not seen since… 15 years on an Android phone…
Seems random. Sometimes they record instantly. Sometimes not.
