Hi everyone,
I took a lot of photos with the Fairphone 6 while on vacation. I think the battery life is really good compared to the Fairphone 5.
But the camera app keeps letting me down. Sometimes some pictures that were definitely taken are simply missing. After a few pictures, it works again. Once the app crashed so badly that I couldn’t do anything on the smartphone and had to do a hard restart.
The missing pictures are very annoying if you rely on your camera. Does anyone have the same problem or have a tip? I didn’t have such errors with the Fairphone 5.
Regards
There have been reports of a problem using the stock Camera app in A15 which leads to the Photos and other gallery apps not seeing your photos for a while after they were taken.
Open the Files app and go to
Internal storage>DCIM>Camera
You may see more photos than in the Photos app.
No problems seen using alternative camera app such as Open Camera.
Thank you very much for the tip. I have tried various file managers and gallery apps. Unfortunately, the images are really not available for me.
I had this problem initially, but it seems to have gone away. Might have been because I initially turned off backup to the cloud.
I’ve just encountered this problem. The photo I took wasn’t present in the files, it seems to have just disappeared into the void.
Details on what happened:
Take a picture
Immediately attempt to send the picture to a friend via signal
Picture appears as blank in the image browser
Picture appears as blank with an uploading symbol in the photos app
Picture then disappears entirely from the camera roll when I attempt to investigate
Same here, about 10% of photos that were taken randomly disappear, sometimes multiple photos taken after another. Feels a bit like photo app is crashing while saving, also since sometimes taking a picture reboots the phone… Now using Open Camera instead, cannot have holiday pictures randomly disappear into the void.
Pictures are not saved in the photo APP thus this should have no influence.
Do you save your pictures to a SD card or the infernal storage?
Can confirm this is happening, even without sharing the photo.
From the lockscreen I double press the power button, take a photo with volume button and then lock, the photo is not there (it does not happen all the time, but often enough to be a problem)
I did not notice it was happening until an important photo was missing :(.
This is the usual flow I used to do with other phones so, locking right after the photo is taken should retain the photos, right?
At the moment, I switched to SGCam, which is the only GCam port that seems to support the double power press shortcut (BSG wasn’t working)
I tried both, no difference. Reformatted SD card, in both formats, no difference. Saving on internal storage: pictures also disappear.
I only use the internal storage. Google Photo backup is disabled.
I also experience this issue. Also, music playing in the background is often killed when taking a few pictures in a row. I think there might be an issue with an aggressive out of memory (OOM) killer algorithm. Because my phone is not really out of memory, there is about 2GB RAM available, taking cached apps into account).
I lost an entire day worth of photos that I need for work. This will be my first and last Fairphone.
I just came back from SAIL Amsterdam, only to find out only half of my photos were saved.
Hi, I am encountering the same issue, hoping there will be a fix soon
Dont hope for fixes report to support, they need more data points as not everyone has this issue.
I experienced exactly the same. Took Fotos in locked mode by dobble press the power button to take a snapshot. Recognised later that the pictures I took this way were not saved.
It is reproductable, so it shouldn´t be too hard to fix.
That is really annoying.
So is this true for everyone facing this?
If yes, sure it should be easy, still FP would need to know ![]()
I forwared the problem to an employee ![]()
This is indeed the factor that causes it. The night mode provides the hint to not close the Camera app until the processing is done. But regular pictures apparently are also disrupted if you take a quick pic and then lock the screen again. Or maybe the aggressive memory management is causing issues. Or maybe both
I’ll create a beta user issue for this. Not that this is affecting only beta users. But it could help getting the issue flagged.
Just to note: I dont use the power button to access the camera, while I often lock the screen directly after taking a pic without loosing pics regularly. Pics are processed in the background propperly when holding the button to generate 20 in a row, even if putting the cam app in the background or locking the screen
