Same here - have this issue when opening from the launcher OR from the lock screen.
I have the same issue, Iāve mainly noticed it when taking pictures from the lock screen and then relocking the phone. If I unlock it to open the picture right away usually it is there.
Happened to me today too, made 5 photos but only 3 were saved. My phone is up to date (as of now.) FP6.QREL.15.122.0
The files are not on the file system at all and I am not using an SD card.
I did switch to the gallery (in the camera app) right after making it and it was there, but moments later it was nowhere to be found.
Lately i have encountered an issue with the default camera app that it shows you taking a photo, but if you look in the photos app that there is nothing there.
Did anyone else encounter this issue? I had it three times today already. It feels like the issue happens when you take a photo and immediately after lock the phone or close the app, but i am not 100% sure
In case you donāt know yet, photos are usually saved in a folder called DCIM. You might want to check if the shots are there. If they are, this might be an issue concerning the Photos app and the Google cloud.
I only use the photos app to check local photos, but i dont have Google Cloud enabled, instead I backup photos to my local network storage.
I also checked the dcim folders, and the photos are not in there either.

I was also experiencing the missing photos issue before. I changed the battery restriction to unrestricted (from default optimized).
Now it seems the image processing continues until finished and so far I did not miss any pictures.
Maybe some of you experiencing the issue could check that setting, test it and let us know?
Where can we find this setting? I can try it as well, see if I still encounter the issue.
Can you still do that on Android 15? I cannot find these settings in the usual spot, like on Android 14. Only āAllow background usageā, which is enabled for the Camera app. It seems like itās enabled for most apps. I havenāt found an app with it disabled.
The setting I changed can be found under Settings - Apps - See all apps - Camera - App battery usage - Allow battery usage (the switch is on, then tap on the text itself) - set to Unrestricted.
My gosh, who invented thisā¦ Thanks for this I would have never looked there.
And just a note: I dont have issues with pictures no being saved, although thr setting is set to optimized, however I dont use the power button double press to access the battery
Got it, what a terrible location for a setting.
I have the same issue and will report to support. Iām not sure exactly all cases it has happened to me but mostly when quickly turning off the screen after a quick snap. Iāve noticed it while doing so during a quick stop while biking and using Strava (with GPS tracking) and possibly spotify at the same time, so could be memory based issue as someone mentioned.
I have also changed from āOptimisedā to āunrestrictedā so lets see if this helps.
The settings change did not help. The same issue is still there for me.
Try āCX file Explorerā and you see everything on your phone or card.
And there is a large time between tipping the button and effective making the picture. The phone is (to) slow.
What Iāve used as āindication of photo takenā is when the miniature pops up in the lower left corner, typically I wait for that then close the phone. That has been the case for me when Iāve ālostā photos, but since I changed settings I havenāt tested enough to see if anythings changed.
For testing if there is an issue with the build in camera app give āopen cameraā app a try. Search in Google Play Store.
So can anyone confirm the change in setting works for you as well? For me it seems to have done the trick as I did not miss any photos afterwards.
[FYI: In my earlier tests Open Camera from F-Droid is also affected by a (different) missing photos bug. This however happens only and reproducibly when closing the app, if the photo was not fully processed yet. And I found Fossify Camera reliably saving every photo (whatever I tried to mess it up, the photos were always there).]
Can you describe when photos go missing. Is there a pattern or just random?
