My gosh, who invented this… Thanks for this I would have never looked there.
And just a note: I dont have issues with pictures no being saved, although thr setting is set to optimized, however I dont use the power button double press to access the battery
I have the same issue and will report to support. I’m not sure exactly all cases it has happened to me but mostly when quickly turning off the screen after a quick snap. I’ve noticed it while doing so during a quick stop while biking and using Strava (with GPS tracking) and possibly spotify at the same time, so could be memory based issue as someone mentioned.
I have also changed from “Optimised” to “unrestricted” so lets see if this helps.
What I’ve used as “indication of photo taken” is when the miniature pops up in the lower left corner, typically I wait for that then close the phone. That has been the case for me when I’ve “lost” photos, but since I changed settings I haven’t tested enough to see if anythings changed.
So can anyone confirm the change in setting works for you as well? For me it seems to have done the trick as I did not miss any photos afterwards.
[FYI: In my earlier tests Open Camera from F-Droid is also affected by a (different) missing photos bug. This however happens only and reproducibly when closing the app, if the photo was not fully processed yet. And I found Fossify Camera reliably saving every photo (whatever I tried to mess it up, the photos were always there).]
I haven’t been thoroughly testing this, but from my daily use, the issue seems to have stopped since I removed battery optimization. BUT there has also been a firmware update in the middle of it.
Indeed, I’ve also stopped seeing the problem since finding and disabling the battery optimization setting. I thought I ran into it again yesterday, but then re-opening the camera app allowed the picture to finish saving, and I didn’t lose the image.
The issue seems to revolve around opening the camera while the phone is locked. I usually do this by double tapping the power button.
I recently noticed that some sort of loading indicator appears when I open the camera app this way, and the photo is not stored if I swipe away before this loading indicator is completed. The camera app is not in any special mode as far as I can tell, and it does not happen when I open the app while the phone is unlocked.
The problem is back. Now even pictures where I’ve waited for the little icon to finish it’s thing to save are disappearing if I switch apps. The camera app is supposedly unoptimized and allows background usage, but I’m pretty sure android is killing it in the background. I’ve just lost 3 pictures in a row.
Spoke too soon, this morning I did my usual snap a shot on my way to work. (use the little icon on lock-screen, snap a shot = saw screen flashing and a small miniature pop up in the gallery, locked screen and went on my way). wanted to look at it at work but nothing there. I would say that it seems to happen less often with “battery optimization: unrestricted”. But not sure.
Hi, I took more pictures in the last couple of days and I noticed the issue is reduced, but not completely fixed by the battery optimisation. Especially from the lock screen, photos still go missing once in a while.
I contacted the support team once again with our latest findings. They say once they are looking into it. Let’s see when a fix is released.
Wait until I see the miniature of said picture in the gallery-icon
Immediately lock the phone (havent timed how long it takes to save/process the image)
Result is no image, sometimes I can recover it if I open the camera app and the image processing is finishing and saves the photo.
Disabling HDR however saves the image much faster so the image has time to be processed (near instant compared to the somewhat laggy save when using HDR) before I lock the phone.
You’re right! But I have also seen missing pics while shooting multiple pics in one session. But that might be an out of memory issue where the process is killed.
