Hi there! I have a problem. last week my Fairphone 3+ begun to restart constantly. I bought a new battery, because i though that was the issue, but the problem still persists. I’ve applied a complete reboot and it still turns off and on randomly. I read some threads with the same problem in this forum, but they were already closed without any possible solution. Can anyone help? My phone is just 4 and a half… i bought this brand because i thought it would last at least 8 yrs… ;(
Hello, sorry this happened to you.
What is the battery level when that happens? Does that happen when charging? Did anything happen that could trigger that? Have you opened the phone to clean contacts?
Have you tried to power it off completely, let it charge, and then power it on?
Hi, thanks for your reply. It happens with any battery level, also when charging
I didn’t notice anything that could have triggered it… but who knows… I haven’t opened the phone yet to clean it.. some guy in a phone repairing store told me, it could be the power button. Do you thing i should clean it? The problem is, it’s covered by a “sticker” with a code bar and i should remove it… I also tried to power it off completely and then power it on, and stil nothing happened…
Thanks again for your response
What charger/cable are you using? Is it a slow-charge or a fast-charge? Some other users reported that the behaviour stopped when plugging to a computer. Does that happen to yours too?
That’s what i’m doing right now. I am chaging it through my laptop. Although i did the same thing yesterday and after desconnecting it from the computer it kept doing the same thing…
Now i am charging it off… let’s see… Thx
Two thoughts:
- If there is enough time in between the reboots, use it to backup all data that is important to you.
- The power button is indeed a possible explanation (although not often on the FP3). Ideally, you would test your motherboard in some other FP3 owner’s phone to check if the reboots stop occuring. Also have a look if there might be a Fairphone Angel nearby 👼 The Fairphone Angels Program and Map (Local support by community members) If the power button is confirmed as the culprit, the easiest remedy would be replacing the Rear Module which is not available in the shop, but can be found in this forum’s marketplace every now and then.
Does your phone instantly lose power or does it do a normal shutdown?
If the former the it sounds like an intermittent connection, probably from the battery connector to the main board.
Power button would only be an issue if it was very easy to press in, resulting in unwanted shutdowns.
Hi, it is a normal shutdown, not a power loss. It think the power button is not easy to press in, more on the contrary, i have to press it very hard in order to turn it on… Thanks ![]()
Hi there
the problem still remains… i fully charged it yesterday through the laptop and as i took it out from the charger, it contiued doing the same, on and off again and again… someone any further ideas…? Thanks a lot
if you’ve managed to make a thorough backup you might try to reset your phone to factory settings, maybe it’s a corrupted app that triggers this
Yes, i forgot, i also did it…
Hi, sorry to bother you again but the problem still persists. Do you know who i can send my phone to fairphone so that they repair it? Nobody is answering to my e-mail requests…
Hi Jule,
Did you manage to get in contact with your local Fairphone Angel? They might help with spares and other advice. The support is as it is, these days. You might not want to rely on the company that much, especially with an out-of-warranty phone.
I don’t know what much we can do here, sorry.
Sounds like a power button problem to me, though normally you would have to confirm shutdown.
However, I can make the phone reboot without confirmation just with a long press.
Power buttons have been seen to fail in the past, the main reason why I now always take steps to use them as little as possible. Like JUST to turn the phone on …
So I think it’s worth getting a look at that power button, maybe with some experienced help. FP Angel might be able to help you, as suggested by urs and koumilak, or a reputable repair shop.
Hello,
My phone is turning on and off for about 10 seconds and then turns black. The splash screen is very slow but there is no flashing. I have been recharging my phone, removing the battery overnight but no success.
Has anybody an idea? Problems with motherboard?
Thanks for any help

Hi Leo and welcome to the forum.
Your original post has been moved here by a moderator.
This could just be a poor contact somewhere, battery or modules, in which case some cleaning might help. That sounds simple and basically it is, but if you’re not in the habit, it might be worth getting in touch with a Fairphone angel, if there’s one near you (see urs’s link above), or someone handy with such work.
There are risks in taking a phone to pieces, but with the phone in its present state it’s probably worth trying.
- For disassembly see the iFixit teardown here.
- Ground yourself before opening the phone (risk of static in some conditions).
- You’ll just need a good thumbnail or spudger and a Phillips #00 screwdriver. Put the screws aside in a small box or you’ll lose them.
- Never force anything, though moderate pressure is needed with the screwdriver to avoid stripping.
- Cleaning can be done using compressed air to remove dust, and then for the contacts, cotton buds soaked in isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) or surgical grade alcohol (90°) available from pharmacies.
- After cleaning all contacts, including those of the battery and battery compartment, leave all items to dry in ambient temperature airflow for 3 hours before re-assembly.
- Be careful not to strip the screws when removing and replacing.
Hi OldRoutard,
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I have been cleaning the battery contacts, but no luck so far.
I will continue and disassemble all modules and continue cleaning, will keep you updated.
Best regards
Leo
