Oh my - Iāll look into them!
I notice this was posted in May 2016, any comments in your experience since then. I assume you are using a Fairphone 2
Iām so happy this thread continues to grow years later with more Canadian Fairphoners! Yes! My Fairphone 2 is still going strong in Ontario on Fido Carrier.
Maybe itās time for some #fairphoneangels to rise up?
English will follow.
Hey, I got my Fairphone 3 last week (a friend of mine was in Germany) and itās working like a charm with Fizz in Quebec city! The FP3 is way better then my FP2 for calling, wifi and Bluetooth.
I sill have my FP2 (still working) and it was also good with Fizz, but not the 3G. The 3G worked with Fido back in the days.
Free FP2 zombie on offer here:
I think it would be so much better if this could stay and help some other Fairphoners in Canada rather than sending it back overseas.
Just wondering if there is anyone with a Fairphone 3 that lives in Toronto, Ontario in Canada that would be willing to let me see the phone in person?
I am planning to order one from the Clove website (thank you to @teleute for the recommendation!). Before making such a significant purchase, I would really like to be able see the phone first.
If anyone is able to assist please let me know. Thank you!
Really pleased to find this community of fellow Canadians here. I donāt have a Fairphone yet but I am looking to get a FP2, ideally for use with Ubuntu Touch. Iād be interested to hear from fellow Canadians who have used that combo and any advice on purchasing from over here.
Thanks and all the best!
Hi again everyone! Xavier from Montreal, QC.
I finally received my FP3! I placed the order through Clove Co as suggested by @teleute , and I have to say it was an easy and fast experience through and through. Ordered last Wednesday and got it this Monday with DHL, customs paid online.
I had to purchase a Qualcomm 3 quick charge charger at La Source since our current chargers were not optimal. I simply popped my Koodo SIM card in there and voila, it picked up the 4G network and I havenāt had an issue since. I will keep an eye on those bars when I travel away from the city.
Iām extremely pleased so far with the whole experience! Thanks to everyone in here for your help and insight.
If this works better with the FP3, would you mind to share some more information on this specific item as there seem to be many FP3 users here a bit struggling to find a compatible charger since the one Fairphone used to offer in their shop is momentarily out?
For the FP2 at last a diligent user made up something like this.
But we should start collecting information to have some for a list.
Sure! I based my (brief) reasearch on this page by Fairphone : https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032166752-Charge-your-FP3
There is an extensive list of USB approved usb c cords and qualcomm 3 quick chargers on here, but I did end up going on a limb and bought their home brand they had in store at my local La Source (which qualified for qualcomm 3 and 3A output recommendations) :
I also got their Vital brand usb-c cord. It all seems pretty standradized.
I cannot configure it correctly for Fizz (videotron reseller actually). I have a Fairphone 3 since 2 days. Can you help me but telling me how you did the config ? Thanks in advanced.
Hey Benoit, I just put my SIM card in it and it worked.
Hey teletute,
I just tried to order from Clove. My credit card company flagged it as fraud but then once I cleared it up and placed my order Clove contacted me and asked from a scanned driverās license or authorization code (which my credit card company does not provide). Then I got all paranoid that Clove wasnāt a real company, can anyone confirm that itās legit?!
Seems super sketchy that they ask for this. Anyone else have this experience ordering from the UK/ Europe?
How did you deal with this?
Thanks,
Alex

That is very strange - I didnāt have any issues like that at all. I did do a fair amount of research back when I bought it and didnāt see any issues with the legitimacy of Clove, and I did get the item, soā¦on that end Iād say things are fine. But in terms of the additional verification, they didnāt ask anything like that from me, so unfortunately I donāt have any useful.advice for you on that front. Sorry!
Hi!
When I placed my order I did receive an email asking me to confirm my identity, probably the same one you received. They gave me two options to do so, either scanning my drivers license if the shipping address is the same as the billing address. Since I had it shipped at work, I went for option 2 which was providing the Authorization Code from the credit card transaction, which I had to call my credit card provider to get (VISA Desjardins). They provided it to me without too much trouble, just as the usual credit card call goes.
I emailed that code to Clove in a reply and they proceeded with my order right away.
I agree that the drivers license scan sounds sketchy. You might be able to to option B and say you preferred not to scan your license. But yes, I can confirm I got my phone from them, very rapidly too. From my experience, Clove is legit. I hope your order goes well!
@Ace_S
To be honest, I am not exactly surprised, since yours is an order from overseas and the payment initially did not go through. Clove might have noticed, that your credit card company first blocked the payment. Since they donāt know, why that happened, they fear fraud as well. And since shipping overseas spells trouble when it comes to litigation, they might prefer to be safe to being sorry.
On Clove being legit. I have no real information. I just know from this forum, that other users had good experience and they seem to be in business since 1992.
Thank you all so much! Really helpful information and such a speedy response!
Thank you, Thank you, thank you!
Youāre welcome!
Thatās what this forum is all about!
