Just the default Photo mode is still crashing.

That is an issue introduced with Android 12, @xblax explained it in detail here, including a workaround.
Since this needs to get fixed for stock to move to A12 anyway, it probably makes sense to wait for that to happen.

In the default CalyxOS camera app, are you able to switch to wide angle and if so, where?

I’m usually on the latest BSG. I’ve just tried stable Greatness, Nikita and Wichaya, same issue, had to enable wide-angle support manually on the first two.

Seems like a general GCam issue, not related to Camera2, we should probably move that discussion somewhere else

I’m pleasantly surprised to learn that the team working on CalyxOS found a way to enable all camera sensors system-wide. I can’t personally comment on software design decisions, as it’s not my area of work, but I will reach out to our developers right away and ask for a comment.

That would be weird. The TOF sensor definitely does not have such a large resolution. No datasheet is available for the imx316, but various sites report resolutions from 240x180 to 640x480. But when it says logical camera, maybe it is somehow postprocessed to stretch to the main camera resolution.

I’m now also able to use the Wide-angle lens with OpenCamera on CalyxOS 4.3.2 but resolution is still locked at 12 MP. Any idea how, if this can be changed to the maximum supported HW resolution?

Reply from support: I actually have some more information to share about this. Here’s a quote from one of our developers: There’s no standard way in Android to work with those high resolutions, wide angle camera etc. Regular Android apps (installed via Play etc) can only access standard feature sets of Android (Android SDK etc). I was hopefully able to convince them that using multiple cameras isn’t as problematic as they claim. But I’m not really sure about the high resolution. As far as I know, even the stock camera app uses some alternative mode to access it. Is there any standard way to do this using the API?

I believe 12MP is the intended native resolution of the sensor. The “high res” 48mp images are probably only available in a special capture mode. Afaik that is a function of the Qualcomm camera HAL but the camera Apps need special support for it.

Open Camera doesn’t lag with wide-angle in low-light situations either, so this is likely a GCam issue. Hopefully it can be fixed by diving into the configs I’ll have a look.

I have seen that the CalyxOS update has now arrived in stable. Has this solved the Gcam problem? Or by the configs of Gcam?

Nope, there haven’t been further changes to the camera framework, stable in Calyx is just a beta that didn’t exhibit bugs.

I still think this is a GCam issue and not related to Camera2, so this should probably be continued in either the GCam or Calyx topics.
I haven’t had much time to play with the settings, but maybe others are closer to a solution

A software build which addresses that is currently being tested. I can’t say which exact release will include the change, but I still wanted to let you know that it’s on its way sooner rather than later.

I wouldn’t say fix, it’s still broken in other ways. But at least all cameras should be accessible, including the ToF sensor.

Just did the update to android 12, ran the camera2 probe. Still no wide angle and still no tof showing up. I thought this was supposed to be the update that fixed it, sadly I can see now that it isn’t. Is there a custom rom that does support 3rd party camera apps that passes the safetynet check (I want to use mobile banking and I play some Pokémon go)

eOS seems to be. I can use wide camera, SafetyNet is ok, banking apps work at least for me, from Italy)

CalyxOS works with third party camera support, though no ToF Sensor support, as far as I know.
Also, safetynet does pass and pretty much all apps work, but it is microG, mot google services, so some inconviniences in favor of better privacy.
