Videos load super slowly

Apps like Youtube, Dropout, Disney+ and at times even audio apps like YT Music, Storytel and Castbox take a lot of time loading content.

Eg. Every YT video I want to watch, I have to wait 30 sec to a minute for the video to load. This includes every single Short. It’s great for preventing doomscrolling but it’s getting really annoying!

Another example: the Dropout app doesn’t load at all half the time, or gets stuck in “load mode” after watching one episode and clicking to the next.

Sometimes it helps for a short while to shut down the phone and start it back up, but lately, that’s not doing much anymore either.

As far as I can see, I have the latest updates installed and more than enough memory to run apps.

Perhaps part of the same issue, perhaps a different thing: sporadically, when I close an app, it will keep playing the audio for a bit, as if the phone is lagging behind on processing commands.

Sorry, not a tech person at all, so I don’t really know the best way to describe these things

DNS over TLS/IPv6 issues- Apps don't load data over Wifi

After the update I have issues with various apps that worked fine before. Is there any way to fix this? Some are totally unusable, because important features don’t work or the app itself doesn’t start at all. No, I don’t think that’s the same issue.

As far as I know, I don’t use a DNS. It happens on all wifi-networks I use (home, work, at friends etc), and when I use 5G.

that would not be hint as its unrelated to this. That it also happens when using 5G is rather odd. So do you have e/OS installed or the standard Fairphone OS? What is your network provider in which country? Does it change when switching to 4G? Did you check your APN settings?

But if that other thread isn’t about DNS, why does it mention DNS issues in the title? I’m so lost thanks for helping, though!

To answer your other questions: I use the standard Fairphone OS, Android 16. I just tried switching to 4G, but the same issues occur. My APN is set to default, and the protocol to IPv4/IPv6.

I’m in the Netherlands, using Youfone for wifi and Simyo for mobile data.

I did find the below info on the public issue tracker, but none of the work arounds have any effect for me.

Description: Some apps load extremely slowly or enter infinite loading loops. This can occur when fetching online content or during the initial splash screen. Rebooting the device may resolve the issue temporarily, but it might recur after some time.

Work around:

• Disable Wi-Fi

• Reboot or clear the Android System WebView cache and data:

• Go to Settings → Apps → See All Apps

• Search for Android System WebView

• Tap the app, then tap Clear Cache, followed by Clear Storage

• Reboot the device

Note: Apps that use WebView to display web content will be signed out and will require you to log in again.

this workaround is useless to say it nicely… please do some reading in the other topic, for me its ok to just disable Wifi shortly when it happens.

Why it mentions DNS? Because it was the first impression that it could be related. Overall it seems to be rather related to ipV6 as also mentioned in the title.
