The Fairphone (Gen. 6): Upcoming Update

Hi everyone,

Just a quick check-in to keep you posted on what we’ve been working on since the last time we’ve touched base.

First off, big thanks again to everyone for joining the conversation, and for sharing feedback. We’re reading it all - here on the forum, on our socials, and elsewhere, and it’s already helped shape the updates we’re rolling out.

The team here is hard at work and we wanted to share some of the improvements that will already be available on August 11th:

Display driver & refresh rate optimization:
We’ve successfully made some key optimizations to how display drivers handle refresh rate transitions and how animations are rendered. We’re happy to announce that most of the fix is already in place, and the last corner cases are being wrapped up now - expect a second-stage update soon to smooth those out completely.

Faster camera shutter:
We’ve significantly reduced the delay between tapping the shutter and capturing the photo in standard mode. It now feels a lot more responsive, especially when you’re trying to catch fast-moving moments.

Clearer video audio:
We’ve introduced a new audio processing algorithm that improves sound clarity in video recordings. This one was a common request, and we’re happy to say the difference is noticeable.

Noise cancellation improvements in calls:
We’ve reduced the latency in our call noise suppression system. That means voices sound more natural and background noise gets filtered more cleanly in real time.

Small UI tweaks with big impact:
This release also includes a few small but meaningful points - like clearer labels and more responsive volume controls, that should make everyday interactions feel a bit more seamless and polished.

More updates are in the pipeline, and we’ll keep sharing them here as they land.

Until then, keep enjoying the phone and keep the ideas coming. Thanks for being part of the journey.

All the best,

Alon and the Fairphpne team.

Nice to know the video recording audio has been improved. FP6 seems already much better than FP5 on that point, if it’s even improved… wow!

I’ve been using FP6 during the last 3-4 days and it seems to me it’s another step forward with regards to previous phones.

An issue I ran across in these few days is that the “tap to wake” function doesn’t work as expected. Sometimes a double tap is enough sometimes you can tap as you like but it doesn’t wake up.

It seems related to how much time it’s been sleeping, the more it’s been dark the more is unlikely to wake up by tapping.

Ciao,
Max

Ich habe von Anfang an das Problem mit Telekom Deutschland SIM, dass 5G mit Band 3 LTE und Band 1 5G nicht funktioniert. Andere Kombination funktionieren, SIM in anderen Gerät funktioniert ebenfalls. Auch als eSIM ist es kein Problem. Bitte fixen. Danke.

Looking forward to the new update, especially the refresh rate optimization!
That should hopefully make the whole experience feel a little smoother. :raising_hands:

You need to be a beta tester to get beta software updates.

And yes, fixes were rolled out for these issues and worked.

It is annoying. When you get the issue you can workaround by unlocking, locking and unlocking again. Then the refresh works fine (in my experience).

As some might start to wonder, I just wanted to pass on the experience that many of Fairphone’s recent software updates came at 18:00 :six_o_clock: Amsterdam time. I have no specific insight into the company if this will be the case again with the upcoming one, but it would not be a surprise.
