I got my Fairphone 6 yesterday (yay), and ran into the same problem during setup (nay) . I chose German as setup language and cannot progress past the data protection screen. Apparently my phone was produced before June, this bug might have been fixed for newer phones… (by introducing a scrollable textbox).
There are answers that have been moved to this thread that point to language change without factory reset. Those are apparently wrong.
There is no way I can see to switch language during setup/at the data protection screen (and you cannot move back to the language selection). The only solution is indeed a factory reset and then starting the setup again in English…
Off to wipe some Gigabyte off the phone and restart the setup.
I wiped my FP yesterday and reinstalled it using English. Now posting from FP .
So, if you use a language that is typically more wordy (longer text) than English, don’t use your own language for the setup process, you will get stuck.
Where can I see whether this has been reported as a bug, and what its status is?
Well, according to https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9831446296849-Public-Issue-Tracker they were aware of a similar but slightly different issue (font size too large instead of chosen language “too lengthy”).
Which is said to be fixed in FP6.QREL.15.105.0. But of course that doesn’t really help if the actual device has been sitting on a shelf with an earlier OS version and would do the update to the fixed version after the initial setup process.
The font problem actually might be the one. Although I didn’t think the text was particularly large! I did transfer settings and data from my old phone… I’ll check the build on my FP and the font settings in my old phone.
I also had this problem with my Fairphone 6 when it arrived (13 days ago). To solve it, I had to increase the device’s font size to be able to reach the checkbox.
Thank you for your help. I found the solution by reducing the font size. Thus I was able to have two separate areas to validate the privacy policy, and configure the configuration for a first use.
Sincerely,
Didier
