Software Update: FP5.VT2D.C.054.20250814 release 📢

Hi everyone,

We’re releasing a new software update for the Fairphone 5 on Monday, September 1st, 2025.

Resolved issues: Fixed an issue that was causing Quickstep to often crash.

Other improvements: Updated Android security patch level to 5th of August, 2025.

Important note: This update will only be rolled out to devices that are already on A.15. If your phone is still on A.14, you will not see this update.

We are still working on the fingerprint issue. All affected users have been given the opportunity to get a repair.

As always, the rollout will happen in stages, so it may take a little while before it reaches all devices.

To find more information about updates, please visit this page. You can also find our support article here.

Thanks for your patience.

Update went smoothly, I have switched back to Quickstep for testing.

The release notes are on the website as well.

VoLTE notification issue does not seem to be resolved yet

After manual checking the update was available for me. Installation went without problems.

Network name is still displayed in the status bar, irrespective of the setting, after any notification comes in. Hope it gets tackled next update.

Otherwise, all good. Update went as it should.

No update for me yet, but expected with Deutsche Telekom network.

I think the official public issue tracker of Fairphone is relatively new, I believe a few weeks back the website would still link to the forum posts of collected issues? The “last updated” date of the issue tracker is 21st of August 2025, so fairly up to date.

According to the tracker, Fairphone does not (yet?) recognize yours as issues though, the only acknowledged issues of the Fairphone 5 are currently the A15 update bootloop with broken fingerprint sensor and the 0Byte images: https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/9831446296849-Public-Issue-Tracker#h_01K362N1F6VKV23HE8HG5YAXJY

Otherwise, the Fairphone 5 is bug free

(besides, there would also be the wallpaper bug)

This bug tracker was already rather useless (missing critical bugs) for the FP4 so I’m surprised to see it was reintroduced at all.

List is clear…

Update was smooth. Sadly the “recommended apps” or whatever the four dynamically chosen apps on the bottom of the home screen are called is still broken.

Is there a way to get the update faster? We’re on Orange France. Summer has been plagged with the QuickStep quitting madness, can’t wait to have a usable phone.

I just updated after receiving the notification and all went smoothly. Thank you for keeping up the stream of security updates.

Hi @jayjayb,

You can install a different launcher for now until you have received the update.

You can check the wiki on this form for information about launchers: ✏ Android Launchers

Does the update fix the problem that apps in background get killed to quickly? I cannot use DKB banking to confirm payments because the other app already gets killed while confirming in the DKB app.

It’s discussed in other topics here and really really many people are affected and annoyed!

Happy to recover the initial configuration on my Fairphone 5. Thanks for the patch.

This update bricked my phone. I am one of the “fingerprint guys” and was able to reboot into A14 earlier. With this update (and an accidentally reboot) my phone is stuck at the green line. Thanks!

Why did you do this update in the first time ?

Edit :

New support tool for speeding up RMA :

I updated immediately after the initial release, where I was not aware of any issues (and not aware of having a fingerprint sensor). The current one in the hope of fixing my problem, being disappointing after reading the release notes, but thinking it wont hurt (as long as I not reboot). Rebooting was accidental.

@Keneda @holger.lange kindly do not discuss this here further but in the respective topic, where you already do. Please dont duplicate. Thanks
