SIM card compart

Hey, my SIM card tray broke. I was changing the sd-card and on the right side there is a gap ( I am afraid there wont be a second time where to change either sd-card or SIM).

Its totally falling apart due to a really bad design ( this is my point, the structure itself it is not properly attached to the tap’s slop).

Anyone had this issue? Who can I get a new slot?

I’m not sure, do you mean the card tray/drawer?

I completely agree with you that the slot design is not good.

As @urs_lesse said, you can get a single SIM Card tray there. If this not helps, there is no chance to repair the slot as sending it for repair. If you open the fp6 for yourself the warranty is broken. So read my full thread with all the points that come into consideration

Do you know if Is it the same design and material as the original? @urs_lesse

@ulweal oh yes, unfortunately I have the same issue.

I wonder if this is something from design because I only took literally out five times the SIM/SD-card and its broke. In my case, I used always the smartphone SIM tool provided by Fairphone. Never had this in my life though :upside_down_face:

Yes, you have only select the color.

I don’t know. I also have never had this problem with other devices.

I’ve only used the slot twice: once for the SIM card, and then, when I tried to insert the SD card, the tray broke and the SIM card got stuck. I hope I won’t have to open it again in the future, and if I do, I’ll be very careful.

Little tricky ah, 12€ for a sim tray which isn’t properly design it….

Maybe: switch to esim in stad of physical sim?

I was thinking maybe i incorrectly take out sim tray at first time, then i ordered in may new simtray… Today wanted to take out sim card & microSD and seems both of them stays inside. Device are in case and wasn’t drop even once…

How do you even get the tray open? I use the tool but it only releases the tray by about 1mm. I don’t want to force it - especially given what I am reading on this thread!!

I am having a similar issue. I can’t manage to open the SIM tray, I press in the hole with the intended tool and it won’t open, I tried so many times to no avail. I need to change my SIM card, can I remove it somehow if I open the phone and remove the battery?

Tray design seems quite poor in the first place on this FP6. Had tried several nano Sim on mine as i was surprised not to be able to smoothly insert the Sim in and push it back into the phone…so no wonder it quickly deteriorates.

Agree, I have to send my phone to repair because of this, I bought it not even three months ago, opened the tray twice, and was not able to open it a third time. On top of everything, they tell me they will destroy my SD card for some data protection nonsense. I am deeply disappointed, it is the first phone I ever had to repair, never in my life I experienced something like this.

Edit: I think the problem, at least in my case is the SD card. I think we should not insert an SD card in this tray, there doesn’t seem to be enough space. I managed to open the tray after hours of trying with different tools, different orientations of insertion, and the tray came out just enough for me to pull, and it was incredibly difficult to take it out. I verified there was no debris or obstacles that justified the issue, and I inserted it again with only the SIM card. Now it still does not move as smoothly as the trays in my previous phone, but it is at least functional. I won’t recommend inserting an SD card here, maybe it becomes too difficult to pull and that is why it breaks.

My FP6 was also about this issue for repair. See my thread here:

https://forum.fairphone.com/t/is-my-sim-card-slot-broken/

Did you have a SIM + SD card together in the slot? I think there isn’t enough space for both and the tray gets blocked.

I think there isn’t enough space for both and the tray gets blocked.

Sorry to be blunt, but that’s nonsense. After purchasing my FP6 in June 2025 I used a physical SIM Card (T-Mobile Germany, 5 years of age) and a SanDisk 1 TB SD card with no problems whatsoever.

OC I did. (Also sloppy reading and English…)

Still can’t wrap my head around the idea that anybody should try to put 2 cards in one tray of a double (sided) tray holder…

THX anyway and keep up the good work!

After repair (replaced motherboard and other parts) the fp6 comes back with empty tray because after all, the SIM card was still in the slot was defect and got removed during repair. I had already picked up a new SIM by then.

So, with the empty tray there was no problem to get the tray outside. I put SIM and SD card at the same time to the tray and put it carefully back into the slot. Everything worked.

However, I hope I won’t need to access the SIM or SD card anytime soon and that I’ll be able to get the card tray out again without any problems next time.
