I just unboxed my Fairphone 6 and one of the first things I tried was removing the battery cover. I watched the Fairphone video to guide me. When I removed the cover, after removing the two screws, it seemed really stuck on. It took a lot of force to get the cover to slide off. Definitely nowhere as smooth as what’s shown in the video.
Now that I’m trying to put the cover back on it won’t slide into place, so I am unable to put the cover back on at all. I’ve inspected the underside of the cover and there’s no obvious damage, nor does there appear to be any damage or protruding bits inside the phone.
I’ve tried sliding it with all my might but it just won’t go back on, and I don’t want to damage the phone but I really think something is defective here. Obviously something is preventing the cover from sliding freely as shown in the video. I’m at a loss what to do here though other than trying to return the phone.
Anyone else encounter this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello @ashughes and welcome
I have only seen the videos and even that not very carefully so please excuse my freestyle improvising here.
Depending on where you are based, you can try contacting a reseller or a local Angel
I would not force it definitely but I would double check the battery - perhaps it is protruding in the way? you could unscrew it and screw it back in place, also checking the battery connector
You could also provide us with some shots, perhaps some other FP6 owners could have a look?
Hi Meaghan, thanks for your prompt reply. I did some troubleshooting, took all the screws out and removed the battery and found the cover went back on (still stiffer than the video but it did). So I took the cover back off and put the battery back in then started putting the screws back in place, trying to put the cover back on one screw at a time.
Turns out one of the screws holding the battery in place is stripped and was sticking up just enough to block the case from going back on. I suppose it’s not a huge deal if I’m only using 5 of the 6 screws holding the battery in place.
Anyway, battery is in, cover is on and my phone seems to be working. I definitely won’t be trying to open this phone again unless it’s to replace an internal part.
Thanks again for your help.

I have no idea how much it matters to have 5 out of six screws in place (mind you, haven’t seen the phone yet) but I would definitely have it reported to support, have them send me a set of screws and then replace the rebellious one, just in case
Hope you will enjoy your new phone with no more hiccups:)
