New fairbuds in-ears - firmware update bricks the buds ?!

Any chance these tools could be opened to the community in the future? Either for tinkering or to make sure people can restore their buds in case of something like this?

May it be an Idea for the future to use the trusted community/Angels to ask for beta tests?
The vantage may be the trusted community/Angels are distributed over many countries and porbably using a variety of devices which can help find some last flaws?

Then they got the google approval for the updated app. Thats good and probaly a sign for the new firmware @BobVI mentioned in this thread.

well it doesn’t look the app comes with any update functionality (yet), my guess is that they’ve released a version without the updater so people can use the equalizer without bricking their buds, i had hoped to see in-app noise canceling options as well but lets hope those come down the line.

Dear Community/Fairphone,

so today I started the Fairbuds application which was already installed and it gave me the option to update to firmware V56. Now I didn’t update yet, my question is: is this the faulty version, which I should avoid or is this a newer one?

P.S.: Never mind, an update arrived and disabled firmware update. I also accidentally touched the update (pinky finger slipped, unbelievable), but I see you guys disabled the download of firmware too, which was a great choice so the earbuds work still. Anyway, waiting for firmware update.

A new version of the app which includes a functional V5.6 firmware update has been submitted to Google for review. Based on previous experience, it can take 1-2 days before Google approves and publishes it on the Play Store.

Hello, got my Buds today and no warning not to update. Did the update 3h ago and now the led is showing red when I open or close. No pairing possible. Please help, can I fix it for my own?

Welcome to the Community Forum.

Have you tried to charge the Fairbuds? Does the LED blink red when you start to charge the Fairbuds, too? That would just indicate a very low charging level (= below 10% – stably red = 10-30%).

Buds are fully charged. When I connect the charger the led is green
When I disconnect the charger and press the button short the led is green, too.

When I open or close the Buds the led shows red for about 2sec

Reset is not working and pairing mode also not

I have exactly the same problem as aphi.
Performed update, unpaired as instructed and since then can’t get them into pairing mode or factory reset. Only redish LED on open and close and green on short press. Charging LED works fine as well and indicates green while charging.

Edit: Also tried taking out the battery and wait a little. Didn’t help either.

I’m trying to install the new V56 Firmware Version on iOS but the uploading procedure gets stuck at random percentages.

I just got my Fairbuds. I had trouble connecting the Bluetooth on iOS, the app said “try again” because the buds could not be found. After a few pairing/unpairing from the Bluetooth settings, the app worked and I started the v56 firmware update. The update got stuck twice, and on the third time reached the 100%. After that, I was never able to pair the buds again. I tried the factory reset, but pressing the button never starts the pairing mode.
I opened a CS request (1134622), but I would be interested if Fairphone could publish the software and documentation to unbrick the buds.

I received my Fairbuds yesterday and I’ve also had problems with the iOS app v56 update. However despite it failing at 22% upload, my Fairbuds fortunately still work. I’ve tried installing the update again - once I could get past the app not recognising that they were in fact paired - but twice it never got past 0% upload.

I would strongly recommend to every Fairbuds owner to keep waiting and NOT update the Fairbuds firmware for now. It does not seem clear to me at all whether a safe firmware upgrade is already available.

Until we read an OK from Fairphone i would still heed this:

To avoid confusion: Updating the Fairbuds app is OK, using the app to update the Fairbuds firmware is not (or at least not certain yet).

Thank you. More interessting for me is what to do now with the bricked ones. I have opened a CS but no response yet

Be patient they need at least a week normally, or call them to speed up, you should have an automatic mail with ticket number

What would be nice to know, is if anyone lurking this thread has successfully updated their device with the new app version that was released yesterday. Is there anyone?

Since the latest message from staff seems to still be that the new app update should fix the issue. It seems weird that there’s no new update that cautions us from the new version as well.

So in my mind it might just be that the new version does work for most people, but nobody is reporting it here. So just based on this thread there seems to be a 100% failure rate on firmware updates on the device, both before and after the updated app.
Some clarity would be nice.

Again our apologies to everyone affected. While we identified the root cause, a mistake was made to publish the iOS version of the app again (briefly) before the solution was implemented. We removed it from the App Store. And I recommend NOT updating the earbuds until further notice.

Unfortunately, some users who already installed the app (or automatically updated it) before we removed it could still be faced with the bricking-issue. The recommendation still is to contact Customer Support, and be assured, they will arrange a replacement for you asap.

I will post an update here once the new firmware update for the Fairbuds becomes available in the apps. It now looks likely that the Android version will be available first, but we are prioritising this issue to make sure we make it available for all this week.

Thanks for the update.
Once there is a new version available would it be possible to post the updated android and iOS app versions numbers here, so we can verify that we have the correct versions before trying to update the firmware again?

And to clarify this new issue is only for iOS correct? So I assume that if android users get a new version of the app it should be safe to update the firmware? Or do you recommend not updating on android as well?
