Dear All! Anyone has a suggestion for a mini SD card for Fairphone 6? Online shop would be great, thanks! Ale
Welcome to the Fairphone community.
Not much information included to help you, for older FPs there were some lists with reported working cards. As there is nothing like this for the FP6 at the moment, hopefully any common brand should work. So choose size and speed according to your needs and go ahead.
Please do not fall for offers “too good (cheap) to be true”. Micro (!) SD cards are a top trap by counterfeit producers in online shops. Only buy from trustable sellers. In doubt, ask here if you find an offer that you are unsure about.
Hello
perhaps you may also find this guide useful
I found this one to have a good price/performance ratio: https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/samsung-evo-plus-512-gb-microsdxc-u3-uhs-i-memory-card-42959342
I had no option to format it as an internal drive though with e/OS/ 3.1.4-a15.
You don’t want to set a SD-card as internal storage, as it will give problems and you will loose what is on the card.
I found that on FP3. I had hoped that by FP6 integrating the SD card seamlessly into the OS would have been sorted out. I have a 128GB Samsung card. I recently moved all my photos and videos onto it as space was getting a little low.
The /e/OS developers made the sensible decision to not offer this option anymore for the reason @Lidwien pointed out, details are in the guide @Meaghan linked to.
Even without the apparent issue aggravation in more recent Android on several devices, incorporating the phone’s internal storage chip(s) and an SD card was never a good idea technically, as it then puts the whole Android “Internal Storage” at the mercy of the more flimsy interface and hardware of the SD card. If the SD card fails it takes down the whole Internal Storage, and SD cards failing for no apparent reason is not as rare as one would like (I have several of those lying around, rendered read-only irreversibly by their controller at some random point in time).
If they can somehow manage, any user is technically better off without this. It was only introduced because early smartphones were desperately lacking in (expensive) memory/storage.
@AnotherElk Thank you for your clarification ![]()
Thanks. I will stick to moving data over to the SD card where I can access it on top of backing up to PC as you seem to be suggesting, I could easily run into the same problems even if I do update to an FP6 or higher even, depending on how long I keep my 3 going.
Please don’t feel personally attacked, but I’ve never understood why people keep “all their photos and videos” on their phone (and then cry that their world has disappeared when the phone breaks or is lost/stolen). Who really does need to have “all his photos” with him all the time? And get a new phone when the old one is full?
Fair point. If I kept all of them, even a 1TB SD card would not be enough! As it is, I have about 32GB of videos, photos and some other stuff on my SD card. I do know several people who do what you describe though and do run out of space on their phones. I like to do some housekeeping often enough that it doesn’t slow my phone down.
If you after a large capacity 1.5TB or 2TB MICRO SD. www.sandisk.com, you can see their prices. I think i last looked a year ago was around ÂŁ200 odd . You could also sign up for newsletter , and you will be informed of offers, no doubt there will be some next month. I assume FP6 ACCEPTS 2TB like FP5.
If you need to understand the standards/speeds use Wikipedia which is good. Of course check what spec the FP6 accepts.
You could also look at mymemory.co.uk they cover alot of brands, incl. their own. I bought their brand normal size SD cards, the plastic split that was along time ago. Maybe too much choice.
And sometimes Argos do a fair price of SanDisk many moons ago.
I assume u based in UK.
Enjoy your search.
