Lost my search bar!

I’d like to get rid of that bar altogether as it goes right across the picture I have on my home screen. I don’t understand why it isn’t moveable - it shouldn’t be that difficult to code.

Hi @danensis,

Thank you for sharing.

Like @Furdiburd explained. it is not really a choice made by Fairphone. Quickstep is the launcher made by Google. and Google is Google so they wanted it this way…

if you don’t like it, its a option to install a launcher you prefer.

you can check this wiki page for different launchers how are already tested by Fairphone users.
and feel free to try a different one how is not added to the wiki yet.

Hi @T4om. Yes, you perfectly understand the behaviour I’m getting.

I consider this a configuration error in Quickstep because the Google bar behaves differently according to whether the Google app is active or disabled. To your point to @PhilHibbs on the reason for this behaviour, I believe the behaviour we all see is because the developers have placed the Google app At a Glance (AaG) widget in the same place on the home screen as the Google bar.

The Action launcher allows me to place the AaG widget and the search bar where I want them, so I’m sticking with that for now.

The text you quote from the FP Support Manage your Home Screen page mentions the Weather Widget. The Weather Widget is part of the Google app’s AaG widget. It’s incorrect for that page to say that the Weather Widget can’t be removed, because you can turn it off in the AaG configuration page! How do we get the developers to understand that the AaG and the search bar are in the same place? Since Google requires both to be in Quickstep, the problem could be solved by giving a configuration option as to where each is to appear on the Home screen.
