Supporting conflict free tungsten in Rwanda
Mining
With Fairphone 2 we continue our journey to open up the supply chain, trace materials back to the source and stimulate responsible sourcing together with our suppliers. For tin and tantalum, we continue to work with traceability initiatives that support mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries. For gold, we are progressing with our goal to integrate Fairtrade gold in our supply chain for the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) of the Fairphone 2. In this blog post, we want to share the latest developments regarding the use of tungsten in the supply chain of Fairphone 2…

Nice. Now it’s somehow cool to be waiting for a FP2 that will probably be produced in February (after the 25th of January 2016).

From the modular architecture and spare parts to open source software, we’ve talked a lot about what makes the Fairphone 2 unique. But there’s one useful function that we haven’t put in the spotlight recently: dual SIM. These two little SIM card...

Like many others I am waiting for my FP2. This will be my first Dual SIM phone ever, and I’m trying to get my head around how to use this feature.
How will apps that link to the mobile number (e.g. WhatsApp - even if I never will use it again , or Signal) behave with two SIMs?
Can I use one SIM as my business phone number and the second SIM as a private number, data plan on the second SIM only?
Can I link the SIM to be used for outgoing calls to contacts, I.e. specifying per c…

Continuing the discussion from Latest blog posts :
According to today’s blog post , I am interested whether and how users use the dual SIM capability of their smartphone.
I didn’t want to include the poll in How to use the dual SIM feature? because it is actually used by users to request help with the Dual SIM feature.
Do you have a dual SIM smartphone?

It’s nice that they list the improvements that were provided to change the mine from artisanal (completely manual labor) to more semi-industrial operations. What are the environmental risk involved here, I wonder? How does the washing process work?
Is it possible to get a pdf with all the work and audits that there done here? Most of the information is second hand info on “certificates” and “awards”, but it would be nice to know more about the criterias and the situations on site.
At Fairphone, we care about the materials in our phone and want to inspire the entire industry to source more responsibly. With this in mind, we’ve been working with our supply chain partners to integrate conflict-free tungsten into our supply chain,...

“… we could be more realistic about the Fairphone 2 battery; it only has a one-year warranty.”
@anon48893843 : Will the Fairphone 1 (FP1 & FP1U) battery continue to come with a two-year warranty?
I just happen to know that @anon48893843 went on holiday last Monday for a fortnight. So he can’t reply at the moment.

Hi all!
Out of curiosity (@DoraXP made me think of it in this post ) I researched a bit on the matter of smartphone failures and warranty and discovered this article from 2010 (I did not read all of it).
It states:
So, assuming that the FP1/FP1U has similar drop-out-rates as the iPhone 4, about 1,260 (out of 60,000) of the phones sold in 2014 would be erratic in the first year of their usage.
The spectrum goes up to 6,7%:
For Fairphone this would be over 4,020 (out of 60,000).
I thought t…
