I bought the fp6 less than a week ago, and I am experiencing an annoying issue but Maybe it’s a little thing I can solve with your advice.
I have a physical SIM card, it worked on the old phone, but here it seems to work oddly now. sometimes yes and sometimes it does not work properly.
I can make phone calls and I have issues in receiving phone calls, sometimes the phone does not ring and the caller is said I am not available.
I don’t receive text messages, but sometimes only after hours.
With WiFi internet works, without it it goes on and off.
So I assume it’s a SIM card problem. I already restarted the phone, I also reset it to fabric settings and started over but it didn’t solve the problem.
I cleaned the SIM card, placed it more carefully, I contacted my network provider but it’s all fine on their end.
The problem also is temporarily solved if I switch off and on the device. (So I tried to clean up the cache but it didn’t work either)
So I ended up opening a ticket via myfp app. I know it might take some time but this is making the overall experience very frustrating as I am travelling a lot lately and I kinda need to have a reliable phone. Is there any other test or attempt I can make to see if it’s a setting/update thing?
so how old is it? I had the issue in the past on my FP2 that I could call people however incoming calls didnt work. The SIM worked without issues on my IPhone. Replacing it I got rid of all issues. I’m surprised that replacing a faulty SIM comes with costs…waiting for FP support can take time (weeks) so maybe borrow a SIM from someone else to see what happens.
Hello, I recently had a problem with my new FP6 and the sim card.
It worked fine for six weeks, then one day the phone would not not connect to my provider’s service. The sim card was recognised by the phone, I had to put my PIN # in to unlock it, but no telephone connection. The WIFI worked.
We inserted the sim card in my husband’s FP6, the card was not the problem. His sim card in my FP6, no recognition of the card at all. Very frustrating with a quality phone that was new.
It was of course under warranty. It was sent to be either repaired or replaced and in the end, it was replaced with an identical FP6. It could not be repaired, the fault was in the sim card recognition failing in the phone. I purchased it from the company Orange, which is also my phone service provider, they took it in charge.
Unlike you for you, my FP6 did not work off and on before failing completely, but otherwise it sounds similar. So potential for failure could be a concern.
Can you test a SIM from another provider? Do you see any reception or nothing at all? Whats your provider and country? Are the APNs correct? Do you have VoLTE enabled? Do you have 5G enabled?
I tried another provider it worked but it’s hard to tell since the issues goes on and off. When I restart the phone or re insert the SIM card it suddenly works for an hour or less then the same issues.
I moved in different locations in the country and the issues stayed so I assume is not a single area facing provider’s problems.
5g is enabled, the apns are the same of the old settings on the old phone (it worked there)
Also there is a general topic related to VoLTE in Italy. As my italian is rather limited, I dont know whats overall discussed there, but maybe you will find some hints if it might be rather provider related.
Unfortunately I think the topic is not relevant to my experience with the issues.
I can make phone calls the quality is good, but often I can’t receive phone calls, receive text messages or using internet (it goes on and off making the experience of reading any site or loading or uploading any message very poor and slow)
First of all thanks again everyone for the answers and the time dedicated to this topic. Sure I’ll try. What does it mean if setting 4g makes the issues go away?
It means that the combination of your Fairphone and the 5G of your provider makes the phone less useable. And that choosing for 4G the solution is that you want at this moment.
It’s always possible that in the future 5G will work.
Looks like 4g+ is doing ok but as I said I’ll monitor the situation in the following days since issues were going on and off suddenly.
Anyway, reading the Italian thread it was posted above I find a bit unjust to not signal some of this kind of problems using fairphone in some countries.
If I understood correctly there is a difficulty on making available 5g in Italy with all the network providers while they are working on it it’s already available in the Netherlands and Germany since there is a bigger market for them there.
Maybe it should be a note on the site since the product is the same while performances may vary depending on countries.
I don’t know why but disabling 5G solved a couple of problem both on my FP6 and my company phone (Samsung).
And the most interesting thing is that I use COOPVoce as an operator and they don’t have a 5G offer so the 5G option shouldn’t impact on the way the phone works.
Neverthless, when “Preferred network type” is set to “5G/4G/3G/2G” my internet connection is “4G” (upper right icon) and when i change it to “4G/3G/2G” my internet connection is “4G+”.
Happy to report after erasing the 1st eSim, then phone off / on cycle, getting a new eSim, installing etc, phone off and on cycle again, all is working just fine!
Can make and receive calls / have 4 / 5G where available and everything is working just fine.
