Incompatible Network

Never met this one before. I’m on the ID Mobile network which piggy backs on the back of the 3 network in the UK. Apparently my brand new fairphone 5 is incompatible with this network. I wonder if this applies to other networks. There are only 4 major networks in the UK so this is a bit disconcerting. Does anybody know why this is ? Cheers

Have a look at this FP4 topic

Else please explain “incompatible”

The Fairphone is now NOT on the ID mobile compatible phones list. So it is no longer compatible according to ID Mobile. Here is the ID Mobile link to their comatible phones. https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-advice/approved-handsets
The question still remains Fairphone. Why would the Fairphone 5 be incompatible with this network provider are any for that matter? Have we got some one that knows please???

Well ask ID mobile I would say

They say ‘approved… to ensure the handset is compatible…’.
That doesn’t necessarily mean others are not.
So, have you already tried? Is the FP5 actually technically incompatible i.e. doesn’t work?

iD are… not notably responsive when it comes to weird incompatibilities, and they do seem to have quite a lot: fully half the people I know using iD have had to change phone because of iD suddenly stopping working with them, and they are never able to explain why, or how to fix it: it’s always the same song, buy a new phone. A shame, they’re excellent otherwise.

(on iD myself, with an FP4, working fine.)

Hi. Yes I tried my FP5 phone on the ID network SIM and no it didn’t work. The phone is not connecting to the network so to me it’s a problem with the phone and it’s specification. The phone is more important to me than the network so I am changing to Lyca which piggy backs EE. I am sure this is something to do with the phone specification. I really dont care either way. Come on Fairphone you are watching this. Just come clean.

I’m in the same boat. Just bought a Fairphone 5 without checking if it was supported by IDMobile, it is not. I asked their live chat support, and they said that they can’t give me support on a device that is not on their cimpatible list, but I am welcome to jam in the SIM and try it. It appears to NOT work. WiFi calling does, but I’m going to have to change to another provider.

Does anyone know if there’s a list of compatible UK networks anywhere?

Hi Phil
I changed to another network. For some reason it only applies to the 3 network and any of their satellite (piggy back networks). There are only 4 main networks as far as I know 3, ee, O2 and vodafone. Soon to be 3 networks when 3 and Vodafone merge in 12-18 months. As far as I could work out the other 3 networks are compatible. It depends which other network is good in your area I suppose. I went with lyca. Cheers

When Vodafone and 3 merge, I’m sure they will still run the two physical networks for a long time. They aren’t going to go around the country tearing down half the antennas, I expect they will just roll out a single next-G network when the time comes.

I’m going to try Lebara as they run on Vodafone and they have slightly less terrible coverage in my part of rural Herefordshire.
