The screen can be locked by hitting the Power button. However that button is sometimes a bit difficult to feel because it is at the same level as the case itself.
As an alternative, is there some kind of gesture to lock the screen?
It depends on your start app (or whatever itās called, the one organizing icons on the desktop and organizing things). Some offer the possibility to switch of e.g. by double tipping in the top or bottom of the display, or other freely configurable actions (more or less)
You mean it might be possible to add some functionality to the home screen which could lock the screen when being tapped?
So, some kind of widget or so?
You might want to have a look at this feature request:
Depends on your software. I.e. I used Nova launcher for a long time. With it, I could define e.g long press ob home means screen off (= lock). Now im using lawnchair, where I can define double tap above the bottom icons as screen off. Might also possible to define shortcuts,i.e. widgets, for that. But as stated, this depends on your launcherās functionality
Yes, indeed, this sounds like it could help. I believe I also heard about turning the phone around and laying it on the screen. But your solution sounds even more easy
Thanks for the idea. So, a different launcher might help. I was hoping there is something available plain Android/ Google / Fairphone. Iāll think about different launchers too though
Most Android ROMs have a setting in the display-menu like seen in this screenshot (from /e/OS), not sure about FPOS though:
For me locking the phone is inconvenient for another reason: To press the power button, I need to apply counter-pressure on the opposite left side. However, the volume buttons are located there. As a result, I keep accidentally triggering the screenshot shortcut (power button plus volume).
Like that I have created dozens of screenshots in just a couple of days. So far I have not found any settings to deactivate this shortcut.
Check the settings of Quickstep and otherwise another launcher should do the trick
Personally I use Kinscreen (com.teqtic.kinscreen) which allows the proximity sensor to be used both for turning off (place phone face down or close flip case) and on (pick up from face down, open flip case, ā¦) It also allows use of other sensors (motion, tilt, ā¦) and fine-tuning behaviour (such as only keeping the proximity sensor on for a certain time, to economise on battery, though it doesnāt use much anyway).
I virtually never press the power button on my phone, but I use the Fingerprint sensor to turn screen on and unlock when needed.
Iāve used it for years.
Other similar apps are available.
Worth paying for the tunable version.
Donāt forget that thereās a difference between locking the screen and turning it off. Locking can happen later if no activity.
Double tap in āSmart Launcherā does the trick, reliably.
Ya, same here.
getting the case soon, so might some what āfixā / reduce the two problems.
Could so end up becoming harder to press the power button, but donāt know yet.
Would be nice if touching the fingerprint reader locked the phone.
Iām experiencing exactly the same issues and hoping for the same kind of solution. However, based on the case photos, Iām concerned that it might make the power button even harder to press.
Iāve lost count of how many accidental screenshots I take every day.
Itās genuinely a design flaw ā I even considered sticking a small plastic strip onto the button just to give it more texture and make it easier to locate.
Yes, a plastic strip might mitigate this problem of switching off the screen. But the fingerprint reader wouldnāt work anymore then, I guess.
I am also wondering if this hasnāt been considered during the design phase. Or if I am missing something.
Other than that, the phone is great
Yes, if you set up the Accesibility feature in system settings, it will give you an on screen menu with several options included. This includes locking the screen and shutting the phone down, as well as volume up & down buttons etc.
Wow, cool, thanks for this information. Big thumbs up for you
I havenāt seen this feature yet.
For me itās a very smart solution
Useful, well spotted!
I shall use it quite a bit, handy for several things in fact.
