There was an extra mode called “movement” however it doesnt exist any more, no idea why. However when you hold the button, camera will take 20 pics ina row, maybe that helps a bit
A few months after, I’m still fairly unhappy with the lag between pressing the shutter and when the picture is taken. Pictures taken are always late and, what’s even worse, inconsistent in how late they are. I can see that the phone is taking multiple pictures but then the camera app chooses one for me and gives me no ability to change that choice.
It’s taking the joy out of taking pictures of my son and making me wish I hadn’t moved away from an iphone.
I just checked on FP6.QREL.15.176.0 by pressing the shutter and immediately moving the phone (indoor, normally lit environment) and it turned out the same as when I kept the camera still. It takes around 1-2 seconds to save the image, but it consistently saves the correct “moment” in time.
I was on FP6.QREL.15.176.0 and I updated to 15 (FP6.QREL.15.178.0). The problem stays the same. The camera takes a picture almost a second later than when I press the button.
Here’s a picture of my hand taken when it was in front of the FP6 camera with FP6.QREL.15.178.0. AI scene selection is off. Prioritise fast shutter is on.
And here’s a picture with a pixel 10pro something of a friend of mine. It’s not great, but that’s ok. It’s a pub at 9pm and I’m taking a picture of my hand. But it’s what it can make of it when I’m taking the picture, not when it decides to wake up and bother itself with pushing pixels…
I’ve tested in dim lighting that I believe would resemble a pub in the evening and I do observe some “lag” (my hand wasn’t in the picture, same as yours).
However, I do see a “loading circle” around the shutter button immediately after pressing it. It takes around ~1 second for the sensor to decide it has captured enough light, but it does start taking the picture immediately. The hand is in frame for some part of the time, but I guess the algorithm is configured to maybe ignore stuff that disappeared from the frame after a short period of time (or something similar, just a guess).
I think this kind of behaviour is expected from a mid-range phone in not ideal lighting conditions.
Do you also see the shutter “loading” in your scenario? Is it the same when you’re outside, during the day?
Hmmm, very interesting. I did the same in a well lit environment and even though the hand was not visible in the preview at first, it did appear when the image was done processing.
I’ve attached my settings, maybe they will be of some help.
Thank you for taking the time to look into this. I had disabled the ai stuff but other than that I have the same settings as you do. Reenabling them does not improve things.
I opened a ticket with the support team and they asked me to check safe mode and see what programs may be causing this.
I have about 10 workplace apps that I use daily for work and about 20-30 that I use with varying frequency.
With all apps disabled, the phone still took pictures with significant delay (I can see the picture go dark on the camera app instantly but the picture that is saved is not the one on the screen when the shutter is pressed!). I then removed all the programs from the phone and also updated to FP6.QREL.16.48.0 but the issue persists.
I’m glad I have another phone now that takes photos and also has all my apps installed but let’s see what happens, perhaps fairphone support will tell me there’s something wrong with my device?
