The finger loop and so forth lol really cool. What a clever way to make use of the screws on the back

I’m wondering, is that screenprotector really adding something?

Looks beautiful by the way

Fairphone has now lent Fairphone Community Aachen a package of an FP6 and its official accessories. After many were unhappy with the FP4 and FP5 Protective Cases, the FP6 Protective Case – in my eyes – wraps around the device sufficiently and also protrudes 1-2 mm above display level. To me it is very much reminiscent of the FP3 Protective Case in that regard. Some first quick shots focusing on that detail:

Note that the FP6 sitting in this case is a cloud white one (see third photo). The case covers the white parts almost completely.

So the back is now 2 coloured with only the case on it?

The protective case has a large cutout on the back, yes (if that is what you have in mind).

I actually asked Fairphone for green accessories for this cloud white device.

Yes exactly thanks. So this means even if the white frame is covered by the case without an accessorie covering the cutout the white is still there and not all white is covered.

Yep. My photos above were just about the question of whether the case wraps around enough (on the front side).

One interesting colour combination:

In my experience (FP4 and other phones), it does. In two ways.

If your phone falls, I’ve seen the screen protector get a web of craks, while the screen itself remains intact.

And also, it accumulates all the small daily scratches. After a few years of usage, the screen will be covered with small marks. Now if you use a protector and you’re a perfectionist, you can replace the protector and get rid of those marks for a relatively low cost.

Thank you for giving insight into the details. One question: I feel really uncomfortable with the big cutout in the protective case. Since I probably won’t buy any of the accessories, it’s just going to leave a big part of the phones backside exposed. How would you judge this after having had the hands-on experience? Also, how it affect the “grip” on the phone when not using any accessories, i.e. how much do you feel the cutout when holding the phone? Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. After my Huawei G700 (with screenprotector), all phones had a book case, were dropped frequently and never had even had a scratch on the display.
I’ll add a screen protector to the wishlist.

Ah, a book case cover does protect the display, indeed. Regular cases may not protect it if you make an unlucky drop on an uneven surface.

If you can, you might want to wait until (many) more specifics are known about this:

I also have this protective case and I like it so far. I am a bit skeptical though about the yellow Moments switch and whether it is good enough protected. Because I think it is not repairable by oneself, is it?

Wow, thanks for the tip… a flip case would be great for the phone… Strange memo can offer it, but not the fairphone shop. The phone itself is cheaper there as well, shipping to NL is an option… but I’d rather order direct from fairphone.

it is not US only according to this German shop…

In addition to my previous quick shots above (:backhand_index_pointing_right: here and :backhand_index_pointing_right: here) I have finally brought myself to make some more photos of the FP6 case and the other accessories (lanyard, card holder, finger loop). A selection:

Three points regarding the Protective Case:

  • I tried a couple of times, but the case stands a tad bit out the device at the volume buttons (see photos 2 and 3). A closer look at the inside of the case suggests that there is no “valley” that would take in the buttons, so the buttons just hit the case like at any other point of the case and make it minimally stand out. Note there is a “counterpart” for the buttons on the inside wall, and there is excellent clicky feedback when pushing the outside buttons.
  • All in all, the case keeps reminding me of the FP :three: Protective Case. It hugs the device sufficiently and sits on it somewhat sturdily.
  • Now, the large cutout on its back … I would think that Fairphone probably debated a long time whether to offer both a case with and a case without the cutout. My speculation would be that at one point we might still see one without from them (and probably earlier from third parties). – My own idea almost right from the start: Could the cutout be filled with an exactly fitting plate of plexiglass (perhaps fixed by slightly longer Torx screws), allowing the user to add some sort of “shop window” to the device back. This “window” could be filled with changing designs without the need for glue or adhesive. Call it changing “temp tattoos”
