Glass screen protector for FP5

I’m really pleased you’re getting somewhere with Brotect from Schutzfolien but please can anybody reading this post also look at posts 13, 16, 22 and 23 which report problems with the products. If you could post an exact link to the product that you purchased, and any photos, it would be very helpful.

Here is my experience. Check the update comment.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fairphone/comments/1cdeq48/has_any_tried_these_aliexpress_screen_protectors/

Replying to myself: I still have the first of the three shipped screen protectors on my displays and cameras:

It didn’t go off again lately, so it seems it really is fixed now although the phone is seeing the highest temperatures ever since I have it. The protector didn’t slide anywhere. There are some minor scratches both on the display and the camera protectors which made me consider swapping for the next one but so far the scratches were not bad enough to make me move…

I’m very impressed with the Brotect sizing which is spot on, and the value for money - three screen protectors and six camera protectors.

But for me the negatives are the thinness and the selfie camera hole. I realise these points may be positive for other people! With the Fairphone case not lying proud of the screen I think the extra thickness of the AYETEA protector gives a better chance of side protection in case of a fall.

I’m glad your screen hasn’t moved.

Hello there fellow Fairphoners!

I’ve been using the screen protector with blue light filter from Fairphone on my FP5 for a few months without any issues. However, as of yesterday, suddenly an air bubble showed up on the upper left side of the screen and I can’t get it removed. I already tried “massaging” it out, removed, cleaned and reapplied the screen protector without any success. I even tried the oil method which a lot of people mentioned online, but that didn’t help as well. Any advice on how to get rid of that air bubble? Thanks in advance

On the basis I don’t have your phone in front of me and also that I know nothing, that sounds to me like the protector has warped. Which should not happen in ‘a few months’. You should contact customer services.

Welcome to the forum!

Since some of these screen protectors come with camera lens protectors, too: Does anyone of you have experiences with removing those small protectors? I tried it yesterday with the Brotect ones, but was not successful in getting a finger nail below the foil/glass (the time for trying was limited, though). Is heat (hair dryer, low level, not pointing at the phone for minutes of course) the way to go?

So far I always just removed them easily on the FP4, just tried it now on the FP5, and it was probably a bit more tricky however worked without any extra “treatment”

@Martin_Anderseck @yvmuell I had ones from Protect and I struggled, practically founding then impossible to remove. Finally one let go but more on its own than because of my doing

Hi,

the screenprotector i was using dit give up today.
i think it was very slightly moving around and no found the edge of the screen. bubble in the left top corner.

i dit try to move it back like i did white the one from mobilize. but it didn’t work big bubble’s all around the screen now.

now i was planning to buy the one from AYETEA.

but i see its not longer available at Amazon.

do someone know if ther is still a place to buy one?

i’m in the Netherlands.

Hello Tom

Thank you for your post. AYETEA is still available on Amazon UK but disturbingly there is a recent German review showing a AYETEA label on a different box with a different reference number (X002DIYO5Z rather than X001VBD4AX, the label written in German rather than French). This review shows a protective glass which fits the old pattern of slightly narrow and slightly long! Disaster!

In post 54 you mention the best reviewed Amazon protector - smartect. There is also the Brotect one available from Schutzfolien - if they will post their screens to the UK I am sure they will post them to the Netherlands. Whatever you do I hope you are successful and please post the results here.

I am considering reopening this thread as unsolved given that German review of AYETEA.

hi
small update.
or not small…

the day before yesterday the second Mobilize FP5 dit slide off my steen. i think it was already after 4 days, sorry i didn’t count.

:-1:

:-1:

yesterday evening i installed furst time a Smartect FP 5 glass screenprotector

smartect Glass Screen protector FP5 https://amzn.eu/d/0g8AJ4F :slightly_smiling_face::upside_down_face:

it’s fits very tight around the edges, just enough space left. .

i only think the the Camara holl and light zenzor holl shouldn’t be there, i never experienced problems when the sensors were covered before, but that is probably more like a opinion.

o and… i did f*ck up. … before i installed the screenprotector. it dit slide out of the packaging on the concrete floor. but only left a small dend in the corner.
i think that’s is a good sign
still two left in the parking. i did use the one who i dropt on te floor.

i will post again when this one start to get problem’s.
so I hope that is never. fingers crossed.

please let me know you experience about every screenprotector you tried as well.

Screen protector with cutouts or without?

I’m looking for a basic screen protector (not a privacy filter and not a blue light filter, as they have on their website), just a basic simple one. But not sure if it should be with cutouts as the original ones, or without, my issue is that with the cutouts dirt and dust will get there and the front camera will always be dirty. There’s also the light sensor, and the screen protectors without cutouts seem to cut exactly through, so wonder if that affects it anyhow.

And I have these options for the screen protector so far:

Please let me know if you have any of these and how good they are, or if you recommend something else. Thank you!

Hello Peter if you look at the top of this long thread you will see that it was solved at post 42 by Simonbor. BUT it appears that people have purchased that product and it has not been the same. Please let us know any new data.

Hi K_peter_06,

thank you for your post,

i totally agree with you that its better to not have the cutouts.

im now using: https://amzn.eu/d/0g8AJ4F

before i did use: Schokbestendig dun hoesje geschikt voor Fairphone 5 - Transparant + screenprotector | bol

i did try other ones as well, but those were not good at all so not gonna talk anymore about them.
i did post about that in this topic, if you like to know.

the no brand didn’t have cutouts, that did work good for me. only the screenprotector did slide of after some time, long time.

the Smartect dit slide a little, very little, as well but i found rubbing the screen with my hand, i can move it back. it’s looks like now its on my screen for long time its is not longer moving that little bit.

the cutout is located badly and the edge is on top of the sensor. sometimes but rarely. the distance sensor wil go bad locking the screen during a call well i don’t have it on my ears or the other way around.

white the no brand (whiteout cutouts) that never happened.

and the dust in the Camara cutouts. its very hard to get out. so pictures ar better without that cutout.

the Smartect dit come with 3 in the package as wel.

the first like i told before dit fall on the floor before installing. i still using that one.

wel i have to tell ther are to bubble like spots left and right of the sides just in the middle. but it doesn’t bother me. those did become visible during those very hot days in the summer. they are hard to spot under the screen.

the second one in the package i dit stick on the fp5 of a friend how dit have the fp blue light on their. that one was one big Buble and was shattered on multiple places. (original case, no surprise)

well i didn’t manage to brake the second one in the package before installing as well. i think I’m cursed now. and i again did stick it on anyway. for so far i know hi is happy with it, still much better than the original, not that bothered by te damage.

i have placed the original blue light on top of my last spare screenprotector of smartect, shape is exactly the same only the sensor cut out is a little bigger on the Fairphone one.

back to your question.

i have none experience with the two you suggest.
but someone how i do have a better feeling of mr shield. it does have good reviews on Amazon 4.3. the smartect get a 4 on Amazon. your first link doesn’t show the stars so no reviews posted.

but yes i think its better to make that decision your self.

i see the one from Mr. shield is mangend before on this topic by @Xenroth

and

i can’t confirm its exactly the same one the link doesn’t go to the same page but it must be the same.

pleas let us know which one you bought and what your experience are!

have a wonderful day,

FP5 Teenrpov screen protector.

I asked for suggestions here and on Reddit for a normal screen protector (as FP doesn’t sell these).

Based on the suggestions and Amazon reviews I ended up buying the Teenrpov Screen Protector for FP5 - https://amzn.to/3TNVjLC

PROS:

  • quality seems fine;

CONS:

  • the top part is not a perfect fit, the corner of it is exactly on the sensors, so far everything works well, but this might change when dirt gets stuck on the corner;
  • 3 corners are already coming off after 2 days, pics were taken after it was installed, but the corners coming off are already visible a bit. Not sure if I touched those while installing, but I tried to fix it later with some tempered glass filler liquid as I had some left from another kit, it worked for a few hours and then continued to peel off. I will probably change to the next one when it gets worse and annoys me;

Btw the case is the Fitudoos Transparent Case - https://amzn.to/3N8LK61
