Glass screen protector for FP5

If you look at post 58 which has the AYETEA protector that is the listed solution to this problem, it appears identical to yours. I put that on the phone on April 26 2024 and can report it is still absolutely fine nearly six months later. My post states that it developed a bubble within a couple of days but that died down. I’d give yours a few days to settle. If I took photos of my phone now it would appear identical to those I took in April.

I got the upscreen one, too (it is also available on amazon).
The size is fine for me (have the tudla cover for the phone).
The selfie cam is not covered, which I do not understand.
But unfortunately, if the phone gets warm in summertime, the protector starts to get loosened from the screen. I was able to smooth out the bubbles, so that it did not remove completely, but I think almost one quarter had been loose…

Hi everyone,

now many months are past since the first user’s stared using the FP5, remabering of the difficulties special at the first months to get accessories.

we find here many screenprotectors where far from worth buying.

it looks like this shortage has been over for some time now.

but wat about the quality, and fit?

my you can share if you have a screenprotector owning it long enough to know if it is worth buying, and is available to buy right now.
please share your opinion.

i can’t start the list.
because I haven’t had one yet that truly satisfied my.

hi, at the risk of repeating myself, I have been using mainly these Polish ones I mentioned earlier in the thread - have never experienced any bad smell

but as I was more and more keen to switch to the privacy filter, I did consider the ones offered here, especially upscreen one (better reviews on Amazon.de) but finally purchased the original FP one with a voucher I received from them

I am very happy with it even though you can still see my screen from behind my back. I have had it only for a month though. The first one I replaced after six months or so.

Thank you T4om for reopening this particular Pandora’s Box. And thank you Meaghan for re-iterating your first recommendation, which undoubtedly works, however much I didn’t get on with it myself! I have changed your latest post to the solution, as your first post now has a dead link.

The solution I had recommended (AYETEA on Amazon) is no longer available, and the various Amazon covers available are not particularly trustworthy. Reviews at different times seem to show that the products change over time, sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse.

I fear that all that this long thread can really say in the end is: caveat emptor!

Thanks for the great recommendation, I am happy with screen protector from Mr.Shield (same as AYETEA?).
I ordered it here: Mr.Shield [3-Pack] Screen Protector For Fairphone 5 [Tempered Glass] [ – Mr Shield
(it was shipped from China)

Before that, I tried “upscreen scratch shield clear” (the red ones), but somehow it ended up bented on the screen, so it didn’t stick on one side… (it’s a very thin foil). I got a replacement from the retailer. So if somebody in Germany wants to try it’s luck. Please let me know.

Thank you for your input do you have any pictures of it on the phone?

Here the Mr.Shield ones on FP5:

looks very similar to
Glass screen protector for FP5 - #59 by aylicarper (AYETEA)
and Glass screen protector for FP5 - #80 by k_peter_06 (Teenrpov)

Thank you that looks identical and I have amended it to the solution as I think this glass option is the most widely useful application.

As promised, my experience of the Smartect screenprotector at the moment i replaced it,

Als i posted before in this topic,
i dit had some issues with it:

  • Sliding around (only the begging),
  • Big air bubbels like marks around the edges that where permanent.

i still don’t like the sensor cutouts.

I do like:

  • the feeling of the glass its very smooth to touch.
  • so long its installed dont brak so easy as most class protectors.
  • The long time it did hold out before it ignored me enough to replace it.

Some weeks ago a very small crack starter from the middle of the screen. Even me being bored and pushing/tapping on this spot did not make it crack true to te edges, only growing slowly. Now it did reached the edge, weeks later.

for how is wondering now “there are 3 screenprotector in the packaging” yes, one on my phone, one on friends phone, one still in the package.

The new one:
I already bought the MR,shield screenprotector at the end of November.
And now installed it, some months later.

package is well made, and practical, included enough good working installation tools and a good instruction. the installation method works well.

only the bubble remover to small and scratchet the service already. i replaced it for the rubber invisible shield bubble remover and that dit work perfect.

now installed, directly noticed that the left over space is bigger around the edges. bit more room to play and for a bigger case (i still use the Tudia and have a second now to have multiple color options, this one does not needed the extra space)

i will post again if i have used it some time.

Out of curiosity, how is your touch sensitivity with the glass screen protectors?
I used to use the variant without the camera hole but had so many misinputs or just no touch functionality in the corners at times. Like, I was scrolling but the phone registered rapid tapping while dragging the finger and playing games with UI elements in the corner was a crapshoot if they’d actually respond to the touch.
Can any of you confirm less sensitive touch? I am not using any screen protector at this point but still have these sensitivity issues, if less prominent…
(I guess I have dry skin and the FP5 also doesn’t have a “glove” mode or something to boost sensitivity a bit more, or I haven’t found it)

Hi @MegaLOOPING,

i didn’t notice a problem with te sensitivity of the touchscreen of the Fairphone 5 using a screenprotector.

I do have seen a issue similar to your description on a Nokia 6.

yes i agree the missing glove mode is very inconvenient.
i do where protection gloves often.

do you have the issue on other capacitive touchscreen devices?

not wearing a screenprotector will be a No for me, as known that Gorilla Glass loses its strength and with it its near unbreakability when it comes into contact with something what does have a higher hardness, specially sand (ofcourse only when rubbed in, which is just what happens in your pocket)

greetings,

Tom

I didn’t have sensitivity issues with any of the screens I used, they were transparent in a tactile way. I’m afraid it seems personal to you. There should be a calibration sequence for all touch screens to personalise their sensitivity to the individual user.

Thanks for both of your replies! This seems like a personal issue then.

I do have these issues with other touchscreen devices as well, the FP 5 with screen protector was just the worst offender so far. I guess I’ll just have to go without glass protection and keep a second screen in storage in case of an accident. My Bark case has a tall enough lip to protect the display at least a little bit

I’m very sorry. Maybe an old sock is the best answer! (Or, even better, a new one.)

What’s the closest match to the fairphone 5 in terms or screen size and screen protectors? Have applied 2 temper glass types from different companies labeled fairphone 5. Sadly they do not live upto expectations I want to try the crystal armour but clearly are never making them for fairphone 5 unless by chance they phones rocket and over take the big wigs.

Does anyone else use a screen protector maybe designed for an iPhone or Samsung?

Moved your post here, see the discussion above

Hi @3lTel

yes there are a few good option on the market now you can find some options in this topic.

i understood you prefer a screenprotector made of glas.

i dont have tried the screenprotector made by Fairphone my self, by reading this topic i feel safe to say those screenprotectors are good, it looks like the issue’s are solved, only the price is a bit higher compare to different manufacturers, what is logical.
And they dont make a clear vision, don’t ask why.

if you prefer a clear vision and like to have a cutout for the sensors and camera, i think the:

is a good option

if you dont like the sensor cutouts, like most of us here, the:

is a better option.

i dit had a issue with both of these protectors sliding around a little bit. this sliding causes bubbles after a few months.
The Mr Shield screenprotector is currently on my phone.
I still have the first one on my phone.
I do have one air bubble on the left side of the screen, which has recently emerged.

this can be a issue wat juist happens to me du to the way i hold my phone.

those two are still far out the best of all i had treid.

definitely yes,

you can read above some attempts where made. but no the shape of the Fairphone 5 screen is unique. no phone was found with a similar shape.
which of course does not mean that it does not exist.

there is no need to look for that phone. you can already find multiple screenprotector made for the Fairphone 5, who do fit, in this topic above.

greetings

Tom
