Ghost inputs on FP4

They’ve not been forth coming with any information around what is actually the issue. They have implemented a software fix that also has the side effect of reducing screen sensitivity for all users.

I’ve received a replacement screen from Clove UK for over $100 dollars. I am going to have a poke around on the current screen to see if I can learn anything additional about the layout and if there are any potential areas that could be causing the issue.

If I can’t figure anything out and I am still having ghost touches on the new screen I am going to be selling the phone and moving on to another companies products.

I’ve had a fair number of pretty lengthy ghost touch events on the latest version. They’ve deleted posts, closed apps, sent messages, etc. It’s a terrible experience and I do not trust the device at all. Also I have problems with the lock swipe not working and pinch to zoom frequently since the sensitivity update.

I just installed a replacement screen, which I paid for, from clove.co.uk, with a date of 2022/09/03. During replacement I checked that the solder joints on the connector were all good and that the pins on both sides looked in good condition. I used my microscope and everything looks pretty good. Pulled up a square piece of tape on the back bottom of the old display but there was not a connector underneath as far as I could tell.

Will report back if I experience ghost touches again.

hi, anybody have some news about the issue of the failed pinch zoom without touch the cover? it’s not possible since 2/3 months and it’s quote difficultà keep in touch the smartphone with both hands…

I contacted the support to trying to resolve this lack of functionality :crossed_fingers:

The reduced sensitivity patch to fix the ghosting I think caused that issue? I do fight with the phone sometimes. I haven’t had any bad ghost touch events yet with the new screen. The phone is very large that’s for sure. It’s very difficult to use one handed if not impossible.

Today I received the confirmation that the complete sales price for my faulty FP4s will be returned to me by the german vendor.

This means I am saying goodbye to you guys as well, thanks for the info exchange. I hope that FP one day starts to listen to their users and focused on their phones instead of getting distracted and wasting resources on stuff like headphones.

All the best!

Yes, It seems related to the 2/3 months old patch due the fix of ghosting.

But I haven’t high expectations due the same issues are already inserted in the known issues already tracked and with work in progress…

oh if the screws don’t seem to stay tight maybe try adding some loctite / thread lock, that blue stuff usually seen on the screws?

I’m having this problem occasionally since a new screen a couple of months ago. I have also started using a non-grounded charger at a similar time so may try another charger, and if not sorted, re-tightening the screen

Hmm… since chargers work with galvanic isolation to generate the voltage conversion from 230V to 5V, they can’t really be earthed. There is no contact to PE (protection earth). I don’t think it has anything to do with that either.
Otherwise, the screws are not really loosening, but the metal is simply moving, just like the plug connections. I can therefore only recommend removing the display and pressing the cable at the display connection once again. That can be enough.

So far no extremely apparent ghost touch episodes on the replacement screen. I though maybe a couple of times there were a few spurious touch events but nothing like the crazy stuff I’d get on the old screen. Hopefully it just stays this way.

Still no extreme ghost touches on the replacement screen. Though it is definitely not as sensitive as I’d like as I often fail to pinch to zoom.

Was experienced the same ghost inputs on the fp4. All of those events seems to take place in the vertical centre line of the screen (as seen in other reports).

Following Hans_de_Vries tip I just disconnected the screen and cleaned the socket and plug with contact cleaner (and a q-tip) and, for the last 4 days at least, have not experienced any ghost inputs.

In my case I did not add more foam padding that would push the contact more firmly in. The foam I had available even if it was slim was thick enough that I felt it would create pressure on the screen.

It might be a side effect of having a easily fixable phone that contacts might get some contamination with impact on the flow of electrons (the phone is not an enclosed environment as phones that are glued shut). But I might be wrong on that.

For completeness I’ll also add that my replacement screen has been working fine for over 3 months and the phone has been subjected to -23C during this winter (which it does complain about being too cold) as well as a lot of other extremes of daily use like an occasional drop. It has yet to experience a hot summer but I have my hopes up it’ll survive.

On my fp4 the ghost inputs returned… the cleaning screen contact fix lasted about 3 weeks. :frowning:

Got ghost inputs for about 3 weeks now. Activated touch visualization after that and this is the first time I got it screenshotted. The touch left is where I was typing and in the middle is the ghost input.

Got a replacement screen July last year and anotherone for self assembly a few months later.
Im so done!

When I get to it, Ill send the pic to support, but I dont think this will be fixable by them, if the bug is still in the OS…

Holy S4!t

Oh as we speak of ghost inputs. This one was massive again!

(This is the FP App Launcher. I censored most of my apps, for obvious reasons. So dont worry about the blurry image)

What a timing. I started getting ghost inputs again. So the display did degrade after all. Contacting support again…

This might not be the display itself, but the display connector, right?

Yes, but since it’s part of the display assembly it’s the whole part that’s being replaced if anything. I haven’t taken the phone apart after replacing the screen so the problem is back nevertheless.

If I can stand this for a while as it gets worse I could just gently reseat it and see if it has anything to do with the ghosting. Can’t really tell a difference until it happens constantly which it did last time before replacement, now it only happens occasionally but enough that I did screenshot it already.

Regrettably, I had some recent spurious center-line inputs spontaneously initiate a call to my local police department - leading to an uncomfortable conversation. In the unlock screen there is an “Emergency” button near the bottom center - is there a way to configure the unlock screen so the “Emergency” button does not fall in the path of these kind of ghost inputs?
