I’ve not experienced this reboot problem in France with Free.
I regularly use Location accuracy.
Additional request over at the /e/ forum (please reply there if you have relevant feedback):
I have the log they requested, but I’m worried about data security. Is there something I can extract from it for them?
I don’t know anything beyond what is written over there. Did you notice the following part:
Logs we require
We need two logs.
Log 1: Boot Sequence Log
The goal here is to capture the entire boot process, from the very start until the device is fully ready.
Trigger the Boot: Manually reboot the phone. Start the log as soon as the Fairphone splash logo is shown
adb logcat -b all > boot_log.txt
Stop the Log: Wait until you see the homescreen and the device is fully settled.
Log 2: Continuous Log until Issue Occurs
The goal here is to capture a long-running log that will catch the moment the issue happens.
Trigger the Boot: Manually reboot the phone. Start the log as soon as the Fairphone splash logo is shown
adb logcat -b all > continuous_log.txt
Reproduce the Issue: Do not stop the log. Keep it running until the phone automatically reboots on it’s own, ie. reproducing the issue mentioned
Week 42, 2025: Development and Testing Updates - Development Updates - /e/OS community
I guess you are on Android OS (Fairphone OS), not /e/OS, so perhaps it would be best if you contact Fairphone Support with your question.
FP 6, Android
I have the problem since I bought an e SIM from Holafly today, a few hours ago. But I remember there was also a phone update yesterday, I think.
I’m in the US now. Thought this was the problem. Because many of you mentioned that Northamerica isn’t supported. Switched to my German O2 SIM. Same problem with restarting. But less often.
Then I switched to plane mode and changed the system language back from English to German. I also turned on battery saver.
Followed every single hint I could find.
My phone didnt restart now for an half an hour.
UPDATE: I steped back and activated my e SIM to see if this is the problem. Now just the battery saver is on. Deactivated my O2 SIM..
With Battery Saver off: nothing happend yet, but do we have found the problem?
I also switched location on and off.
Location on: Google Maps, first restart after almost an hour.
Location off: Google Maps, works.
Is there currently somebody with this problem: European Provider SIM and e SIM for traveling in the USA?
Or is it fixed now?
Hello,
From what I understood the issue is connected with FP6 using the location services in the US, regardless the network.
You could try various solutions mentioned in this thread for instance switching the location accuracy.
I believe the issue is currently being investigated.
I think and hope you’re right! Experienced it like you said.
Do submit a service ticket because the team is lagging. They haven’t even identified the issue.
Same problem here.
Brand new FP6, French language, french operator (free), no problem until I landed in the US.
Phone started to reboot everytime I connected (roaming) to US network.
Just tried to disable location (seems to work for now)
Hopefully I bring my old Samsung S8 with me
Just tried to disable location (seems to work for now)
It should be sufficient to disable location accuracy, no need to fully disable location
Just turn off location accuracy, the rest can stay (but learn from my mistake, go into settings and also disable Emergency Location Service, so that it does not trigger the crash when you attempt to reach emergency services)
Now this is affecting, as predicted, travelers from the EU to the US and Canada, can we get a faster path to a resolution instead of being forced to turn off a core Android service? ![]()
It should be sufficient to disable location accuracy, no need to fully disable location
I don’t think that’s sufficient. I tried re-enabling Location Services with Location Accuracy Off and it rebooted instantly, as soon as I turned Location Services on.
I followed these steps from @wallacewells and it’s been ok so far (only 15 minutes, but that’s a big improvement!)
Hey, Put your phone in airplane mode, go to settings > apps. In the top right corner make sure SHOW SYSTEM is on. Click on See all. Delete the CACHE ( NOT the data) for Google Play services. Make sure location ACCURACY is off. Also turn off the emergency one that’s a few steps above it and turn off wifi and Bluetooth scanning on that same screen (you don’t have to turn wifi and Bluetooth off). Restart your phone. Once it’s up, take it our of airplane mode and it should work. I’ve had contact f…
So for me, it only worked after I cleared the cache for Play Services, and disabled Emergency Location, and disabled Location Accuracy, then manually restarted, before turning Location Services back on. (I left Bluetooth Scanning and WiFi Scanning off too, but those were already off when I had the restart plague).
Context: fairphone with UK physical SIM and UK eSIM, both on the EE network. Trouble started immediately when I travelled to the USA. Restarts happened even with roaming disabled, one or both SIMs disabled etc, which makes sense now that I know it’s related to location services. Only aeroplane mode prevented it, which makes the phone useless.
Over a month now and I am hoping the latest security update delay is so this and some other bugs can get fixed. Anyone from Fairphone reading… if you wanna consider a cute discount code for our patience for your loyal US and Canada based owners when the fair buds xaunch on Amazon later this month I think none of us would be mad ![]()

Europe’s Fairphone enters U.S. market tapping right-to-repair demand
Nov 5 (Reuters) - Dutch ethical‑electronics maker Fairphone is entering the U.S. market with its repairable headphones, preparing the ground for a phone launch, chief executive Raymond van Eck told Reuters in an interview.
So we’re getting a fix for the restart loop, right? ![]()
Hi,
I’ve had the same problem since I arrived in the US (since yesterday). My phone turns off and on again. Apparently it’s for configuration purposes, but for the past two days I’ve hardly been able to use it because it keeps turning off and on again. I normally use it in France and have never had this problem before.
Do you know if there is a solution? Thanks !
Welcome to the forum.
a solution
As far as I know there’s not yet a solution, though I think it’s likely FP are looking at this, even if the problem is mostly occurring in North America.
In the meantime, have you tried disabling Location Accuracy? This has been found to help (please read above). Go to
Settings > Location > Location Services > Location Accuracy
It’s really annoying.
Google maps ask me to turn on the location accuracy (and refuse to give me directions if I don’t).
Do we know If FP is really working on the problem?

Best to ask them and add weight to the priority by opening a Support ticket. contactsupport
yes they definitely do.
