FP6 Restart the phone to load the corresponding configuration - 15.148.0 - US/Canada

I’ve filled in the support team who reached out to me in my DMs but worth offering an update. TL;DR, Fairphone Gen 6 on Bell in Canada, standard Android version purchased in France.
Airplane mode overall prevents restarts, but the best “fix” so far has been to disable Location Accuracy in settings. I’ve been able to get normal/full cell and data service again without issues since doing this (airplane mode off). Thank you to the ones here who found that, it’s working great.

Only a Norwegian esim from PlussMobil. I do run VPN on occasion, but in that case I’m still using Norway as my location.

Just confirming I’ve done the same (disabled Location Accuracy, Airplane mode off and Location on) and similarly have had no restarts since!

Disabled location accuracy. Now had over 20h uptime.

I haven’t yet applied this update - is it better to hold off applying it, or do I have to do it eventually anyway?

As long as you are not in North America the chance is very low you will be hit by this bug.

I had Location Accuracy turned off, and have iver 20 hours of up time. However, I ordered an Uber home, and not to my surprise, my phone rebooted in the middle of requesting the ride.

100 hours uptime!

Should I hold out hope for being able to use GPS on my phone again?

Today I got another reboot. I don’t know why. I wasn’t using an app that uses Location Accuracy. Anybody has any other updates? is the team identified the issue?

Did you disable it completrly because it seems just disabling accuracy helps several people and it at leat significantly reduces how often reboots occur

No, not completely. I do need the location. When I turn on hotspot for my son it reboots and Uber reboots. I will turn location off completely if I am not doing those two things. I will use the Clock alarm app as that is the only alarm that I believe rings when the phone is locked.

I had another 2 restarts in the last 24 hours. One was while ordering an Uber, the other one seemed random. No idea why. Very annoying.

My phone keeps rebooting even with Location Accuracy turned Off. Can you please share with us how the team helped you solve it?

Hey,

Put your phone in airplane mode, go to settings > apps. In the top right corner make sure SHOW SYSTEM is on. Click on See all. Delete the CACHE ( NOT the data) for Google Play services. Make sure location ACCURACY is off. Also turn off the emergency one that’s a few steps above it and turn off wifi and Bluetooth scanning on that same screen (you don’t have to turn wifi and Bluetooth off). Restart your phone. Once it’s up, take it our of airplane mode and it should work.

I’ve had contact from two people from Fairphone. They’re actively working on a solution and have gotten logs from quite a few of us. This is not an overnight fix, but one will be coming

Thank you for the details. I will turn off the Emergency setting and the Wifi scanning as well. Let’s hope this helps. I appreciate the response. I have hope!

Hello,

De mon côté je confirme la résolution du problème en mettant la precision / accuracy OFF, plus de redémarrage depuis, reste à attendre la maj…

J’utilise Waze à la place de Maps en attendant!

Hello,

I’m surprised to see no more posts on this thread. I’m in France and this morning I received a notification to update my FP6 to version QREL 15.148.0. I’m hesitating to apply it.

Can anyone tell me if this problem is present in France?

I am using a translator to write to you, so I am not very good at English and may not have understood the entire discussion thread.

Thank you.

Its mainly hitting those in US and Canada, we only habe 2-3 reports from EU and none from France

The fact that they couldn’t reproduce it had me hopeful that maybe something settled or there was a small background update, but within 5 minutes of turning location accuracy back on I got the familiar pop up and reboot.

Well, the 3 weeks with the device as primary were lovely. Maybe one of the updates in the next 8 years (LOL, I know. We all know if we’re being honest, h) will make it usable again.
