I’ve had my FP6 for about a month. It has one physical SIM and one eSIM. I’m using the default Android/Google Messages app.
Some text messages simply won’t send. Instead of the usual checkmark, they remain stuck with the small clock icon.
The problem occurs with both the physical SIM and the eSIM.
It happens mainly with “long” text messages (roughly anything longer than about 4 cm on the phone screen).
It can happen with a single message (without any previous messages), or after successfully sending a whole series of messages of the same length—including other “long” ones.
It happens both on my carrier’s home network and while roaming abroad.
With the physical SIM, after a failed send attempt, Google Messages eventually offers to switch to SMS after the message has been stuck for a while (or after cancelling). If I choose that option, the message sends successfully.
With the eSIM, there is no option to switch to SMS.
-
If RCS is enabled, it does not offer to switch to SMS and instead says the message cannot be sent because mobile data is disabled—even though mobile data is actually enabled. It even happens when I’m connected to Wi-Fi at home.
-
If RCS is disabled for that SIM, the only option is “Retry” (without “Send as SMS”). Retrying simply reproduces the same problem indefinitely, and the message never sends.
Restarting the phone, resetting the eSIM, and resetting the APN settings make no difference.
Once a message gets stuck like this, I can’t even copy and paste its contents to split it into smaller messages because the content is no longer accessible. I also can’t send any new messages to that contact until I delete the stuck message. The only solution is to delete it and rewrite everything from scratch.
I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting this with my eSIM carrier. They investigated thoroughly and could not find any issue on their side. One thing that surprised them was that the SMSC field contains not only the phone number but also “,145” immediately after it. The format is "number",145 instead of just "number".
On the physical SIM, the “Send as SMS” fallback option is available. On the eSIM, it isn’t.
Both SIMs previously worked perfectly in my old BlackBerry Key2 (yes, still in 2026!), running Android 12, where both were physical SIMs and SMS worked flawlessly.
Having to write every message as if it were a 150-character Twitter post is ridiculous. It makes you look like someone who can’t finish a sentence or who is frantically sending fragmented messages. And when you’re dealing with urgent medical situations—as I often am—it becomes a complete nightmare.
This is really disappointing.
Link to a prior topic from Belgium on this from 6 months ago. So far not working for me.
