FP6 brightness randomly gets scaled down

Hey,

I’m very happy with my new FP6 apart from some bugs already mentioned. One thing I experienced but didn’t see someone already had the same problem with, is this:

Sometimes (around 1 time per 1-2 days) the brightness of the screen slowly drops (~5 seconds) to the lowest setting, although the outside is very bright.
If i then turn the phone a little bit it gets resetted to bright (maybe because the light sensor sees a change), but just to then start again dropping the brightness to the lowest level.
I also can move the slider manually to max, then it also keeps doing the dropping.
The brightness stays at the low level if I don’t turn/move the phone around. Otherwise, the cycle keeps continuing.

The brightness is set to automatically brightness. If auto is turned off, it works as intended.

Anyone else experienced the same?

Oh no… So they still haven’t fixed this in Android 15. While it was fixed in the final releases of Android 13 for the FP5. Best is to report it to FP support. Hopefully one day they will fix it (again).

This is not an issue of the Android
Versison and completely device specific. Adaptive brightnesss had the one or other issue since the FP3 at least.

It’s indeed a FP issue, the auto brightness is not intelligent and not well calibrated with the sensors :frowning: I hoped they might’ve fixed it by now. And it was at one point, but then with Android 14 it regressed again. Hopefully I can make a difference as a beta tester soon.

Having those issues here as well. Especially in darker conditions. Most of the time I choose manual control.

Yes I noticed this issue as well but since I upgraded from my trusty FP3 I am used to this issue. Still its quite annoying i.e. when using the phone in bed at night.

Yeah, my FP6 does this, gradually dials down to minimum.

Happens on my FP6 as well (standard Android). The screen brightness just gradually decreases. Makes you question your eyesight. It doesn’t occur too often, but every now and then. Annoyingly, it happened a lot while I was navigating (google maps, navigation mode).

Also happening with my FP6. I’ve had to switch off adaptive brightness as it is unusable when suddenly and randomly dark.

Same here, if auto-brightness is activated the brightness randomly drops to the lowest level. For me, mostly in the situations when moving from bright to dark environment.

I actually have the opposite. I use auto brightness, and I keep pushing down the brightness, but it seems this phone is adamant on being super bright.
Like, guys, I get you have an amazing screen, but I never needed more than 30% of the brightness bar so far. I like my screen dim.

I’d like to add my two cents and say that I’m also experiencing the adaptive brightness drops, especially when the phone transitions from a bright to dark(er) environment – even whilst turning the phone whilst on my couch.

Have also reported the issue to Fairphone support.

Hello,

I noticed the same issue !

Same issue here too. I hope we get a fix soon.

I have this too. But it seems less common after a few days of manually increasing it

I’m getting the same behaviour. The brightness goes to minimum randomly even in quite brightly lit situations.

Hello all,

I have the same issue with the auto brightness it really bad, and not useing it anymore on my fp6 it fels very cheap! I hope they can fix this in a patch! I never have seen this bad of a sensor in a phone!

Iam really happy with the phone but the fps drops and the light sensor are really bad.

It’s been a few days now, and I keep having the same issue. Does the adaptive brightness learn at all? Or is it just a static mapping?

It does learn on other Android phones, but it doesn’t seem to, on the FP6.

Hi all,

FP6 recently bought, so far so good, but the brightness intensity doesnt change; not matter if its in manual or adaptive mode. The ‘A’ mode is aware of environmental light, because the bar moves, but still no reaction. Brightness level shows the percentage when cursor is moved around the bar. I tried changing some options like Ambien display, Dark theme… but nothing makes a change.

During daylight goes more or less unnoticed, but at low light it is VERY disturbing. And I understand that I’m using more battery than necessary.

I read that there was an issue related to this on FP3… anyone has been in a similar situation?

Best regards,

Carlos Abellanosa

I have this issue once in a while and could never track any sensor-data in order to get a clue about whats happening.

Maybe one of you guys have more luck. There is a FOSS-app called SensorBox which can capture the light-sensors data in the background and store it in a .csv-file. Best would be to stop capturing right after it happened, so it is easier to find where the screen-brightness freaked out.
