I have the same issue.
Hi all, yesterday I created a post, not about randomly behaviour, but no brightness change at all; it is now closed. 8/8/2025 it was released the last update and the problem was solved when I restarted the phone. So, be sure you restart the phone. I hope it works also for you.
Same issue here at both phones: especially in bright daylight, thr phone turns dark … waiting or noving a bit seema to work after a few seconds. Not a big problem, but very anoying… do you think it is neccessary or helpful to report this ir does fairphone read in the forum?
Yes it is
Not really
Got the issue multiple times happen this week. Going to report it to fp.
Alas, bad to read that this is a general issue. Samsung A13 and Nokia 6.1 here have the same issues, they go dark randomly to the minimum setting, no matter what.
I still have the problem the light sensor is terrible this moment! I have the latest updates and restarted my phone. I just put the slider on 50% that works for me! But I want I good working light sensor! How hard can it be?
I have the same issue and as DarkCloud mentioned, I just adjust the brightness manually which is fine for now.
I am hoping for a update from Fairphone!
Yep, can confirm. Going outside, even on a dim sunshine morning i barely can see anything because Autobrightness is set way to dark. I put it on about 50% manually for now. Not very powersaving but thats the only practical solution i see so far. Very disspointing to be honest. Gives me some bad flashbacks from my google 3a which had similar problems when they introduced this “adaptive brightness”. Took quite a while until that got fixed properly.
Does anyone still have this issues with the newest update?
I think there are several reasons discussed here, but the first post said, if he moves the phone a little bit, than the brightness comes back.
Here I see the function of “display timeout”. If the timeout reached, first the display dimms down for some time and then if you take an action the timeout is canceled and the display is comming up again. Otherwise the display turns off.
Greetings
Same problem here with my FP6. Has a solution been announced by Fairphone?
I was redirected here after my post:
It has nothing to do with the screen timeout. The screen is far too dimmed just when I switch it on and will not get brighter in 10 ore more seconds.
And it looks like the sensor cannot divide “almost dark” from “absolute dark”. The lowest dim level is set far too soon.
I have an anti-glare screen protector which makes it more bad, I think. But I do not want to miss the anti-glare in most light conditions.
Do the FP6 use the front cam for brightness detection?
This is supposed to be fixed with Software Update: FP6.QREL.15.151.0 ![]()
If it is not fixed for you, please note it here and write the fairphone support.
Amazing, after the update the auto brightness just doesn’t work at all, it doesn’t increase or decrease and just stays at whatever brightness I set using the slider. It feels like I’m using a custom ROM, not a product I paid for.
Are you sure auto brightness is enabled?
Yes of course. I’m also sure the sensor isn’t covered and I already restarted the phone.
For what it’s worth it suddenly started working today so let’s hope it stays that way. Still very disappointed how buggy the OS on a 600€ phone is.
Edit: Sorry for my tone, I know you’re a user like me just trying to help.
It only works when there is enough light. In dim and dark conditions you have to manually increase the brightness. I remember from my previous phone that there was supposed to be a learning function but it doesnt work here.
Version FP6.QREL.15.151.0 maybe a little better than the previous one but not sure.
For me it works! Have you had a look at the brightness level in the settings with adaptive brightness on?
