FP5 not booting (hard bricked) after update to Android 15 (VT28.C.042), in my case fingerprint sensor is working

My FP5 is no longer booting (hard bricked) after the update to Android 15 (VT28.C.042).
I just ran the update. When the FP5 prompted me to reboot I clicked on the reboot button.
When the screen went black it remained so whatever I do. No led on, no sound, no vibration, also whatever I do for these 3 symptoms.

The phone was charged 98% when I started the update today at 12:22.
The update was finished at 12:49.
Around 13:00 I clicked on the reboot button
At 13:35 the screen remained black even if I pressed the power button or even power+vol. down or power+vol. up, in each case I press during at least 30s.
If I connect to a computer, “adb devices” does not list anything. Earlier today, before the update the device was listed.
In my case fingerprint sensor is working.
Could you please tell me how to get this solved ?

I saw that my concern is similar to FP5 not booting after update to Android 15 but not exactly the same so I created a new topic.

Unfortunately I had the same hard-bricked FP5 last year but that was after an /e/OS update (see this message)

I already opened a support ticket some minutes ago.

Since you already tried long pressing the power-button and it didn’t work. Did you also try taking out the battery and putting it back in?

Yes I had tried this already.

Thanks anyway for the advice.

what about Volume - and plug to computer? Does it go into fastboot?

I’ve got the same issue. The update (which you can’t avoid) bricks phones with a broken fingerprint sensor. Fairphone won’t even acknowledge it. Sorry but you’re going to have to get another phone from another manufacturer.

This topic here is not about broken fingerprint reader, keep this seperated. And that they dont acknowledge is wrong.

So please stop going off topic.

This did nothing. But thanks for the suggestion.

Anyway the support offered me to return the phone so that they repair it. I will certainly do this.
I am still waiting for the detailed return process.

In the end I sent it back for free.

They then repaired it for free.

I now have a repaired phone.

I just had to wait several weeks without my FP5.

@fpjh Were you able to recover the data and photos on the phone ?

I had fortunately learned the lesson from a past OTA update on this FP5 that things could go wrong so I had backed up everything before I started the update.

I did not loose anything.

But I think that I would have lost everything otherwise. The phone was so bricked that even connecting to a computer was useless.
