A colleague had the infamous boot issue after applying the Android 15 update back in early September, even though she wasn’t even aware the phone had a fingerprint reader in the first place.
She applied the October update earlier this week, and the update went great, the reboot didn’t brick her phone, and everything has been running smoothly since.
So yay! ![]()
As you probably know, the A15 boot problem is related to a nonfunctional fingerprint sensor, which may be somewhat random. That would explain why you didn’t roll back to A14 and why you could sometimes boot A15.
Presumably your old phone will have been sent to Fairphone repair centre which is contracted out.
That’s a very sensible approach and you certainly chose well, since your phone was actually working.
I don’t think it’s possible. It’s complicated anyway. I’m in Morocco. I received this smartphone as a gift from my employer, who apparently also received it at a seminar in France.
Hi , @anon76468197, @Fairphone_CM , Hi @All
My Fairphone was automatically updated to A15, and since then I’ve been stuck on the FP logo at startup. Multiple forced reboots haven’t fixed the problem. I’ve managed to boot it into safe mode twice. In safe mode, if I forget to charge it and the battery is dead, I get stuck again. I’m currently using a Huawei that I’m not happy with, and I’d really like to get my Fairphone working again.

Do you have any suggestions?
Only two solutions.
You succeed booting and directly update to the fixed A15 rom.
You find a way to send it to repair, contact Fairphone support for that part.
Another thing would be to try finding another FP5 with full working sensor frame, and use it to mount your Fairphone 5 electronics in it, maybe you can then boot and update, then get back your broken sensor frame.
Hi, I had the same problem and I used the solution suggested here: put a tiny droplet of water on the on/off button
:
Then update your phone. See below:
A post was split to a new topic: My Fairphone 5 became unbootable after a fall, and since then it gets stuck during the boot animation
My Fairphone 5 became unbootable after a fall, and since then it gets stuck during the boot animation. I can access the recovery menu, but nothing else. The key point for me is avoiding a factory reset, because I have photos with very high sentimental value stored in the internal memory. I’m therefore trying to find out whether there is any way to repair or reinstall the system without wiping the storage. From what I understand, this might only be possible through an OTA update package (ADB sideload or SD card), but I can’t find any OTA packages published for the Fairphone 5. Could Fairphone please confirm whether such a package exists or will be made available?
If not, has anyone here had experience with professional data-recovery services (physical memory extraction, chip-off, etc.) for smartphones? I’ve been told this could cost more than €700, so I’d appreciate hearing whether anyone has successfully recovered internal storage data from a Fairphone device.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Hello
I moved your post as I am not sure it is in anyway related to the fingerpoint issue.
Could you please let us know (if you remember) what version of FPOS you had been running prior to the fall?
There is always a chance that a connector came loose with the fall. So I would like to suggest you open your phone and check.
For a manual see the instructions on Ifixit Fairphone 5.
Hello both! Yes, I think it is related to the fingerprint issue, because I reported it on the 18th of August (https://forum.fairphone.com/t/how-to-recover-photos-from-internal-memory-on-fairphone-5-stuck-at-boot-only-recovery-accessible/124394). Weeks before the problem with fingerprints and Android 15 appeared. And my phone had changed its behaviour after falling to the floor and getting the on/off button stuck. Some weeks later, I opened the phone, cleaned it with electronic cleaner, etc., but the device still stopped at the green background with the lighter green line. I think this is related to the fingerprint sensor and the Android 15 issue.
My question is: can I solve it without losing the photos? Or does anyone have experience with professional memory or mobile phone recovery services (~700€)?
this question was discussed many times in the forum and I would say the answer to 1) is no. and for 2) Where are you located?
I am in Spain. I requested information regarding this company, in Barcelona: https://laby.es/
