Hello, my FP 5 is affected by this problem. I reported it to Fairphone on 28 July but have not heard back from them.
I tried the rebooting workaround and it did work at first but now the phone is no longer working.
I followed the trouble shooting guide and this created another ticket but I have not had a reply to this ticket.
I would like to know about the advanced replacement process. Does this mean Fairphone will replace my phone?
In an early post there was mention of sending my phone to be repaired. Is this still a possibility? I don’t know if the fingerprint sensor is working or not, I’ve never used it.
I am finding this situation very difficult to deal with and would welcome any help. Thanks.
The trouble shooting website should at least in principle allow you to generate a return label so that (I assume) you will be able to send your phone for repair
But I have just followed that and after choosing: FP5 Stuck after the update, it only offered the option to create a ticket
@anon76468197 Is that a desired solution? I kinda hoped that this specic path: My device is stuck after the Android 15 update, was designed to facilitate fast (automatic then) repairs
So I have gotten into a boot loop 3 times with a faulty fingerprint sensor.
My latest hack to get back in is to wet your finger just slightly when the I comes up with the green screen and press the finger to the fingerprint sensor. Booted right up for me.
YMMV - use very very little water….a tiny droplet is enough. My guess is that it’s short circuiting the fingerprint sensor check when moisture is detected.
I am facing the same issues as described by various users regarding the freeze.
However I wanted to ask if it is possible to just cut off the connection to the fingerprint sensor or just replace it by myself. Do I really need to send in my phone?
Also I suspect that my fingerprint sensor stopped working spontaneously since I am not aware of any physical damage. Could there have been any software issue causing the fingerprint sensor to crash?
Thanks for the help and the useful responses on the forum<3
Since sensor is part of the alloy midframe and not sold on the Fairphone store, no, you can’t replace it yourself.
Now if you feel confident with heavy deassembling your phone you can still try to reach the connectors of the power button/fingerprint sensor and try to clean/tighten it up, and even if I don’t think you can cut off sensor without booting issue you can also try then (you will need to test which is for powering the phone and keep those functioning)
Or you could try to temper the issue with the “wet finger” workaround as described just above by @careless25.
Same issue here - my fingerprint sensor wasn’t working and after updating to Android 15 my phone is bricked. Unfortunately, rebooting 7 times isn’t making it revert to 14. What other options do I have? I’ve already opened an official support ticket as well
Make sure you don’t turn it off and it doesn’t run out of battery.
And then hope for a quick next update that will not brick the phone anymore with a broken fingerprint sensor. Besides, I think there’s not much more you can do if you don’t want to send it in
@anon76468197 please can you reply to the moderator: can you tell me why the troubleshooting path on the FP website doesn’t result in me being able to send my phone in for a repair. Thanks.
Hi All, I’ve been following this issue for some time now and I’m thankful I came across it in the early days. I’m still surprised Android 15 is being rolled out with a know issues, as big as this, (paraphrasing here) that could brick the device.
Although my fingerprint scanner is currently working, I’ve been holding off on the A15 update because I don’t want to be caught out with an issue occurring and having no phone.
As I’m outside of Europe now for the next few years and mentioned repair option won’t help me any time soon. It would take at 3 to 4 months minimum, lots of money sending my phone around the world and using a relay person. So I feel my only option is to wait for a software solution.
My concern is now around security, should I be concerned that holding off on updating to A15 for x amount of time will put my phone at risk? What are the risks?
@anon76468197 - How often or when can we expect you’ll get updates from the T2M team looking into this A15 software fix.
I want to let you know about my situation because i have a question towards it:
On my screensafer was written: fingerprint hardware not available. I thought it was a software mistake and did a restart, because a few hours before i still used my Fingerprint sensor. Using it regulary and never had any issues. After the restart i got stuck like all of you. After a couple of restarts the phone now works again and the fingerprint sensor as well. I dont know if the fingerprint sensor is now broken or not? Anybody had this kind of thing?
I sent it in for a repair on september 17th, I got it back on september 24th. I am located in Germany and the repair took place in France at Cordon Electronics near the Atlantic coast. They replaced the complete midframe. I think the other parts are the old ones, but I can’t say that for sure.
Hopefully this issue is now solved for me, because the backup of the phone data did not work as supposed. Thankfully I secured all photos and videos of mine on my Computer and not on Google Drive, so I just lost the app-configuration and it was a bit of work to set the phone up again with this.
