I agree! It’s so strange, though, that some people have this and others don’t. I don’t recognize this bug at all.
I think it really depends what apps you are using. It seems that a few apps (for me, it is mainly two banking apps) are written poorly and have a temporary high memory allocation. And when the total memory used exeeds a certain threshold that is unfortunately much too low (i observed like 50 % total memory) than the system kills all apps besides the active one.
I think some people use some of these apps more often in their daily routine and some don’t use them at all and that would be the reason that some are heavily affected and others not at all.
Do we have any idea when the fix is going to make it through testing to release? Has there been any sort of feedback from the current testers?

And I am really not being condescending. I was offered to take the testing but missed the window. Really hoping for a successful conclusion of this issue.
Meanwhile, and in any case, I started looking to e/OS/ and even Lineage at this point. Let’s see what comes first.
It’s only been out for a few days, and not even all beta testers have received the update yet. A little more patience (a virtue that every Fairphone enthusiast should possess) and the FP5 will become a pleasure to use. Hopefully.

Next phone for my wife should have been a fairphone 6, out of ideological reasons only.
But I would get killed with the bare phone if she would experience what I are experiencing right now for what feels like a decade.
I can’t articulate how much effort it takes to focus on this glimpse of hope for the phone instead of letting brutal frustration take over.
Please, let there be a solution. Please.

Just a short update: The problem still doesn’t occur on /e/. I have flawlessly installed 3 OTA updates meanwhile. Even “minor” bugs have been fixed quickly. They are doing a great job.
I did have my music app stop something like 3 times in those last months (before it was like every 10min during a train ride). But I’m not even sure what did cause this as I could just continue the song from exactly where it stopped (the app didn’t get wiped as it used to happen on FPOS). No other issues with 2FA or multi-tab-websurfing or anything like that.
In conclusion I would say /e/ doesn’t have the memory issue at all.
But be aware, that a degoogled OS introduces other things to fiddle around with, so it is not a solution for everyone! For me personally it works well and will keep the FP usable for the years to come.

Since I started running SDMaid every day, my Fairphone is usable again.

Just wanted to check before I do the update if there are any reports already - but none, neither in this thread nor in the update thread? Interesting. So I’ll give my phone some charge and will try it myself later today/tomorrow.
I was cautious because in the past, a restart, a new update or a new settings helped very tomporaryly before the background killing starts again. But after installing the update this afternoon until now, everything works and there is no quitting of background processes anymore. Maybe the problem is really finally solved.
So far works for me as well, hopefully it is indeed resolved.

When I continued an open App this morning and switched to the Homescreen, it needed two, three Seconds. But in daily use, it works good.

It feels like I have a new phone. I can switch between 2 or 3 apps now, what a relief!
Thank you to the devs and the team for the update. It’s been a rough year but at least now we’re good to go. And I can finally recommend the FP5 again

However am I the only one having the issue that the FP 5 (6GB) is heating up much more, even in standby mode?
On my side, nothing to report. I guess you have tried restarting the phone?
Installed this morning and all seems well! Disabled the background process Developer Settings too.
O also confirm that the issues seemed to be fixed with the latest update.
AccuBattery issue (of being killed in the background) is also fixed—it’s now correctly displaying the sessions as a whole, and not as a series of small partial sessions.
