FP5: Android 15 killing background apps more aggressively

Kindly discuss this other issue in a seperate topic or under the general update topic not here.

Phones on Proximus still don’t have the update. I think it’s stuck in their testing program again where they don’t release the update for us

edit: it’s 28th of april, still no update

It did happen to me, that music stopped working one or two times, but in generel it works.
I can finally use two-factor-authentification again.

The update works for me, most of the time. Sometimes I am however back to apps being killed when switching which is resolved the next hour.

it’s 20th of may…. and still…. no update for Proximus customers….

The insane delay of updates for Proximus customers is an ongoing issue you guys have….. for years now… i’m sorry but it’s insane…

same thing happening to other fairphone customers: Still no update to A15 available for FP4, Proximus Belgium

Hate to be that guy, but I think this is the wrong thread for Proximus talk. Unless you’re implying that the update fixes the background app issue which it probably does not.

I’m saying that proximus sim users haven’t gotten the update that fixes this issue

EDIT: 11TH OF JUNE, STILL NO UPDATE

Thibault is still waiting for the update that addresses the subject of this topic. To quote the official website:

FP5.VT2P.C.089

Release date: 30 March 2026
Android version: 15

Changes:

  • Optimized background process management for smoother multitasking.
  • Security patch level: 05 March 2026

It seemed to have been sorted out. However, it has started happening more often again.

It’s always helpful to indicate which software version you are running. This helps to track changes from one release to another.

@MikVV Could you indicate your current OS version? You’ll find the info at
Settings > About phone > Build number.

Do you have any details about how things have changed?

FP5.VT2Q.C.092.20260330

The familiar issue: apps closing in the background, which makes it very difficult to set up two-factor authentication. For a while, as previously reported, the issue had disappeared. Now, however, it is returning with increasing frequency.

Thanks!

Have you been offered FP5.VT2R.C.095? As things stand it’s probably best to install it when available. 092 was just a security patch.

However it was fixed with 089.

You are so far the first and only one reporting this and I assume we would see here a lot comments if this would be a general issue. Best is you contact Fairphone directly

Yes. Thanks. We’ve updated one of our two FP5s. Apps still keep sometimes closing on both devices, and it’s happening more frequently again (as I said, it had almost disappeared for a while), but now the updated device is experiencing the Wi-Fi issues mentioned in another thread (disconnecting due to ‘low quality’). The AP is 3 metres away and the signal strength is at full bars. Data rate: 866 Mbit/s.
So: Unfortunately, that wasn’t the solution.

Best to follow these two problems in their respective threads.

Concerning background apps, on general principles, I would advise uninstalling any apps that you don’t really need, maybe progressively, and see how it goes. Some apps can use resources in the background even if you never use them.
