FP5 Android 14 - loss of streaming to hearing aids

Hi,

After installing Android 14 to my FP5 I have lost direct streaming to my Oticon More hearing aids. There were no problems streaming with Android 13. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this including resetting Bluetooth, uninstalling and re-installing the Oticon Companion app, forgetting / re-pairing to my hearing aids (multiple times). Any help is very much appreciated - thank you!

Could you check the following?
Uninstall your Oticon app.
Let Bluetooth forget your hearing aids.
Restart your phone.
Now try to connect your hearing aids with Bluetooth.
When you succeed, install the Oticon app.
Success

Hi Lidwien,

Thanks for your reply. I’ve followed the instructions exactly and unfortunately this has not worked. In fact, as well as no sound to my hearing aids there now is no sound from the phone speaker when streaming media. Is there anything else that you’d suggest?

So you don’t see your hearing aids in Bluetooth?
First you go to the app Setting, then go to Bluetooth?
What do you see there?
Just to be sure. Did you connect them as discribed how to connect your hearing aids Oticon - Android?

Hopefully a screenshot has uploaded to show what I see in Setting / Connected devices / Bluetooth. In case you can’t see this, under ‘Media devices’ it shows the hearing accessibility icon with my name, and underneath this it says ‘Active, left and right’. Yes, I did connect my hearing aids exactly as described on the Oticon webpage (I have done this many, many times before). Both of the hearing aids are definitely connected to the app as I can change the settings channels via my phone.

Another interesting thing - I just turned Bluetooth off and on again and the hearing aids will not reconnect either automatically, or when I manually select ‘Connect’ from ‘Device details’. The only way I seem to be able to get them to reconnect is to ‘Forget’ and then re-pair.

If you tap on the cogwheel on the right after Alison you can check if audio is on.
Interesting when I turned off Bluetooth I also had to manually tap connect in the Bluetooth app.
By the way I have Phonak hearing aids.
I just made a call through my hearing aids with no problem on Android 14.

Hi - see above, when I tap the cogwheel there is no option to turn audio off/on (but I do see these options for my ANC headphones).

I’ve played around some more and found that when I connect to Bluetooth only I can stream to my HAs, but if I connect to the Oticon app too then the streaming is lost. If Bluetooth connection is lost I need to forget / re-pair to connect again.

I’ve also had difficulty connecting to my husband’s Galaxy S23 on A14, which makes me think the issue is with Oticon devices and A14. This is really frustrating as everything was fine with A13, but at least I’ve figured out how to get some streaming to function.

Oticon has the nerve to tell you that they work perfectly on an iphone, happend to my sister.

@alisonstokes You are not the only one with this problem.

When i tell the phone to forget the Bluetooth connection and re-pair the hearing aid, then i get streaming again. That is, until i disconnect the hearing aid (turn of Bluetooth, turn off the hearing aid, charge it…), then it stops working again.

What’s worse: even when the hearing aid is disconnected and bluetooth is off, i get no normal sound in calls. Currently i can only hear what the other person says if i enable the speaker.

None of that was ever a problem with Android 13. I hope this can be resolved with an update soon

Please contact Fairphone support naming the exact type of hearing aid used and try to get help of the device manufacturer as well as maybe your fitter.

Should you also use Oticon, they use the ASHA protocol and the FP5 is the first FP supporting that…

Interestingly, I have the same problem with Signia hearing aids. After a restart or charging of the hearing aids, the connection is lost and no sounds come out of the fp5. The only thing that helps is restarting the hearing aids and reconnect to the phone. This did not happen on a13. My wife’s Samsung phone with A14 does not have that problem.

Further to the above, I have no longer any sound when making or receiving a phonecall, I have to return to my old phone. what a mess

Hi,
although it’s good to know I’m not the only one, this is really frustrating. Here’s my situation. I’ll be posting to Fairphone, and updating on that move here.
B.t.w.
I’ve tried the various suggestions posted here.

I’m in the lucky position of having access to both Signia and Oticon hearings aids.

One of the reasons for buying my new Fairphone 5 was the direct connection to my new Signia aids, as well as the compatibility to Bluetooth LE and hopefully auracast. I have been informed that complete compatibility will be achieved with Hardwear upgrade “soon”

After the problems with the fingerprint scanner after the FP3 update to Android 13, I must admit that I was a little sceptical about choosing Fairphone again, but I continue to support their concept. Skipping FP4, I was initially very pleased with the decision to purchase a FP5.

And now this problem with Connectivity!

I do hope FP finds a solution to this new problem, which as a hearing aid user is very inconvenient to put it mildly.

Hope the following is of help to this thread.
I include experience with both TV adapters, though I assume they use a different method of connection.

Equipment:
Signia Charge & Go T 5IX
Streamline Mic 1.1
Signia Streamline TV03 Adapter

Oticon More 1 Mini R
Connect clip 1.1
TVA3 Adapter

Signia & FP5
Before the Update I had no problems with streaming (either directly or via SM 1.1)
Since Update to Android 14 I do not hear any streaming directly into my hearing aids.
Using the Streamline Mic 1.1 . After a few minutes of successful streaming the sound stops, the player is still running. This phenomenon occurs with both offline (sd card) and online (e.g. BBC Sounds app) material.
The problem can be temporarily solved by stopping and starting Bluetooth.
I have unpaired and paired both hearing aids and SM 1.1. to no effect.
TV Adapter functions perfectly.

Oticon more & FP5
Have not previously (before Update Android 14) been able to hear streaming directly in to my hearing aids, and have depended on a Connect Clip 1.1. My fitter was not surprised by this, so I accepted it.

Since Upgrade to Android 14
Now able to stream direct to hearing aids.
No problems Streaming to Connect Clip 1.1
Using TV Adapter successfully.

Thanks for your patience getting this far, and hope somebody comes up with a workaround before FP fixes it.

I have Phonak Audèo Marvel with batteries. After the update to Android 14 I don’t loose my connection with the Roger on anymore. So for me is the update very successful.

Edit: the last two days my phone is losing the connection with the Roger on again.
The problem is back.

Not sure if this is related:
I have recently setup a FP5 with Android 14 for someone with Signia hearing aids (Styletto AX model). The initial pairing took multiple attempts but at least we got a stable connection after some tries.
But when I enabled the ‘hearing aid compatibility’ in the Phone app (under Settings → Accessibility), there was no audio in phone calls anymore. Turning this setting off again and phone calls were working without problem.
We did not test streaming, but maybe there are similar conflicting accessibility configurations?

Hi,
same to me - after update do Android 14 ASHA (audio streaming for hearing aids) does not work any more.
I have Signia Pure C&G 7IX hearing aids and I bought FP5 especially because it is supposed to work with Bluetooth low energy ASHA protokoll hearing aids. Untill update to Andorid 14 it worked well: I coud make phone calls, streaming worked fine.

After update to A14 I can only stream / hear the ring tone if I make FP5 forget the hearing aids and repair them again (to be done every time bluetooth got turned of or the hearing aids got turned of for chargin or FP5 was connected to the car) .

Then straming is working and I get the ring tone of the phonecalls on my hearing aids - but if I take the call I have to go to loudspeaker - otherwise there is nothing to hear, neither via the hearing aids nor when I switch to normal phone with out loudspeaker :frowning:

I had e-mail conversation with FP-Support but no usefull reply so far - not even how to get back to Android 13 - since I am missing calls because of this mess.

I too have the same problem with Starkey hearing aids. This is definitely a problem with the update and not the hearing aids. Everything worked fine before Android 14 update. I have contacted Fairphone support and am waiting for a reply. In my experience this will take some time.
In the meantime the answer seems to be to unpair and pair every time I turn the phone on .

Hello,
Same probleme since the update of Android 14
I am thinking of selling my fairfphone 5. I wanted to reduce my environnemental impact, but I also need to use my phone as … a phone.
I wonder if the fairphone5 dev team is working on this major issue. Do you know if Google pixels phones with Android 14 have thé same issue ?

I have had some conversations with Fairphone support and they are definitely working on this problem as a matter of urgency.
