Thank you Rachel for this information.
A further update if itās helpful: even when the hearing aids are successfully paired, and there is sound for streaming and notifications through the aids, the sound for a call does not come through the aids.
Hi Rachel,
Yes, this is exactly my experience. However Iāve found that the connection is not stable and drops out fairly quickly, so there is a constant need to forget / re-pair and then I only get audio for streaming and notifications. The only way I can get audio during calls is by using my ANC headphones.
Iām in communication with FP support but have had no response from Oticon so far
Hi all.
got an unpleasant mail from FP support.
For going back to Android 13 I would have to send it to FP - additionally I would loose al my data, since they woul reset it, third this would only be possible to use until beginning of Oktober since security will force me to go bacht to Android 14 at this time.
On the other side - they hope to fix it in Okober - but not for sure. I cant belive they are not putting more emphasis to get this bug solved. They broke the main reason to have a phone to make and take calls, which is not possible in a lot of situations any more, even when I repair after every change to bluetooth (Turnig on/of , going by car with bluetooth connection etc. I can not take any calls in the public any more sice the only possibility to hear the other is to go to the loud speaker - which is obviously not possible in the public .
I told them to come up with a plan in the next 5 days when the bug will be fixed in the next 15 - 20 days otherwise I will propably put it to my lawyer to file a claim against them for the damages.
Thats not correct however when you downgrade on your own you cant lock the bootloader and yes data are lost.
As much as I understand your frustration, thats a bit exaggerated as it affects some hearing aids, not even all and all others can use it to make calls
Hi yvmuell,
no it is not exaggerated - for the hole community of hearing aids needing people who have this problem (even if is not affecting all, but a lot) the phone is not usable in the way what it is made for. Not getting calls at all, or not beeing able to take the calls is making a phone more or less unusable - yes you can stream if you repair every time but not make phone calls as you are supposed to which is the main reason to have a phone as the name allready states!!!
so do i!
Same issue since A14 updateā¦
After installing Android 14 to my FP5 I have lost direct streaming to my Starkey hearing aids. There were no problems streaming with Android 13. I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this including resetting Bluetooth, uninstalling and re-installing the Thrive app, forgetting / re-pairing to my hearing aids (multiple times). Any help is very much appreciated - thank you!
Hello all,
Does anybody know if this issue is a general issue for Android 14, or is it specifically linked to A14 on Fairphone 5 ? I am seriously thinking of selling the F5 and buying a google pixel
Cheers

Greetings fellow āsufferersā,
After initially accepting this frustrating situation and switching to patience mode, Iāve now received massively unhelpful emails from both Fairphone support and my hearing aid āresellerā here in Germany (audibene is the reseller and my aids are from signia).
Iām not sure how the support people are trained, but itās frequently the case that despite detailed step by step descriptions of the things Iāve tried and tested multiple times, the answer remains unpair and pair again. The fact that this only a temporary solution (Iāve still to work out exactly when or why the connection breaks) and phone calls go unheard, doesnāt seem to have got through to them.
Having read here that someone from Fairphone gave October as a possible timeline for a solution, I related that to my Fairphone supporter and he replied:
āI sadly do not have an ETA as to when this issue will be resolved but we will also communicate with you directly as soon as we have any additional information to shareā.
Hmmm. Any ideas of how we can increase the pressure on Fairphone?
I was informed of an update yesterday:
FP5.UT.27.B.059
Has anyone tried it? Iām loathe to change anything at the moment for fear of worsening the situation.
Cheers
Mick
Hi Same problems with Update FP5.UT27.B.059.20240809
Any other solutions available?
I have the same issues and I had bought my Fairphone 5 only a few weeks before the android 14 update. So I paid for a brand new phone to rest in a cupboard since thenā¦
I am quite disappointed and since my backup phone (an old iPhone) isnāt available for me after February, I am really struggling to trust this Fairphone. Especially since I canāt see very much feedback from Fairphone themselves here. Hearing aids arenāt fancy headphones, so how there not much more support for disabled Fairphone customers.
I love the spirit of having a sustainable smartphone, but I do have an everyday life, too. And I need to be able to make phone calls.
Since having a second backup phone isnāt sustainable either, I really think about going back to iPhone. I never have had issues like that with apple.
So, are there any updates on this topic?
Have a great day
(Signia hearing aids; Fairphone 5 listed as compatible and equipped with ASHA on signia homepage and Fairphone Homepage)
I can confirm the exact same problems / symptoms with my new Starkey Evolve AI 12 RIC hearing aids connected to my (also rather new) Fairphone 5 with Android 14 version FP5.UT20.B.041.20240624.
I just visited my hearing aid specialist and they received confirmation from Starkey that this combination is unstable and therefore Fairphones are not listed as compatible on their list, allthough their system requirements mention Android version 10 or higher and Bluetooth with Asha, which seem to fully comply with Android 14 on FP5.
Checking system updates on my FO5 does not show any of the newer updates mentioned in this discussion, though. Not even if I enable developer mode first. How do I get / install these (and later) updates then?
Also, developer mode has a lot of extra bluetooth options which I do not comprehend fully. Has anyone tried experimenting with any of these yet (and did any of them work)?
Still the same with next update FB5.UT2BB.072.20240920. totally frustrating
I have the same hearing aids and they worked without any problem on my Fairphone 5 and Android 13. It is only since Android 14 that the problems have started. The most recent update has still not resolved anything. Ironically, my most recent message from Fairphone said that if my problem was urgent I could contact them by phoningš. Given that I can no longer make or receive calls confident that Iāll be able to hear anything, this just rubbed salt in the wound. So sorry not be more positive or helpful, but you are definitely not alone. My audiologist has said the problem is widespread and that there is s nothing we can do ourselves, but wait.
Some time ago support has changed from phone to chat. I think this is good in your case and you might give it a try?
Thanks for responding, and yes I suppose I could try the chat option, but my feeling is that all I would be told is that they are working on it and canāt give me any idea of when or if it will be resolved. Thatās been the message for the last three months.
Hi,
I gave the Google Pixel 6a a try (old phone) and it worked perfectly with android 14, and still does now with the new android 15. (Hearing aids from audibene, signia)
Unfortunately my journey with Fairphone is over just a few months after I bought the smartphone. I bought a Google pixel 9 and I am happy now.
