FP 6 Screen color is Sepia toned

Hi,

i used a FP3+ for five years and got the FP6 today (fully configured and with all updates). The screen of the FP6 looks like there is some kind of Sepia filter or effect applied. I have a lot of black/white pictures of my cats and they look like some “olde times photos” with a Sepia effect.

I switched from light to dark theme, still sepia. I switched to “extra dark”, still sepia. I tried the three color options, still sepia- even worse with “Boosted” option. I tried the three contrast options, still sepia. I switched 60/90/120HZ, still sepia. I tried all color correction options and color inversion, still sepia. I tried the Nightlight, still sepia.

The only thing i could find on this problem is one post on reddit, unfortunately with no solution. Are there options that i miss? Can i do anything else? I would be grateful for any help you can give me

check if Night Light is enabled in display settings.

thanks, but it is not active

Hi and welcome to the community forum.

Your phone may have a hardware problem with the display or connector.

For checking the latter, you’ll find a disassembly guide on Ifixit here

Apart from that, you’ll probably need to contactsupport or the vendor.

Thanks, i’ll disassemble it tomorrow. Apart from that, I’ve already opened a ticket. However, I have also noticed that the light or flash of my FP3 is significantly brighter than that of the FP6. The FP3 completely outshines the FP6, and it also appears colder. The light on the FP6 is very warm and, as I said, only a fraction as bright as on the FP3. I’m toying with the idea of sending it back, even though I really like it apart from these two issues and would actually like to use it.

Hello
would you have an opportunity to compare how these pictures look on somebody else’s FP6? Perhaps during the local meetup or asking an angel?

Unfortunately i dont know anybody else with a FP6

FP6 left, FP3+ right

The Fairphone support just told me to send it back, the screen is defective

Just to cross check. if you open a plain white page in a browser, this forum for example, is it sepia tinted too?

Yes, coming from an Gigaset GS290 I noticed this too. So my old phone in standard setting it’s quite cool (the screen :slightly_smiling_face: ). Therefore all of the three choices in setting coulors and with standard “adaptiv” on FP6 brings all a more or less “warm” screen display. I wish more setting here or an slider for setting the screen colour temperature.

Let me hear if you sent your FP6 back for repair und if this really is a defect.

Yes, its always Sepia, apps, pictures, homescreen etc. I contacted the support and they told me to send it back, which i have already done (Amazon). The new one i ordered will come tomorrow

I understand that there are differences in screens, but for me this was too much. It was very irritating that i never saw real white on the screen. I sent the picture to the support too, he said to send it back which i have already done (Amazon). The new one i ordered will come tomorrow, so ill never know exactly what was going on. If it is the regular screencolor and the new one also has it, i will have to look for another phone. That would be very unfortunate, i love my FP3+ and i really want to use the FP6. I used it for just one day and it is great, i like the screen size and that it is quiet fast (at least compared to my FP3+)

Perhaps we could get some other users with both FP3 and FP6 to show their screens with black and white pictures on?
There might be some community devices available, I don’t know how of the hassle would that be.

Hi, I might be wrong but - in order to compare the screen qualities - don’t we need to see the pictures of actual phones displaying the same image? Instead of screenshots?

Don’t think so, but for the sake of completeness:

(1) the original picture as downloaded from the Web

(2) FP3 (above) und FP6 showing the pic (as seen by Sony RX100 IV)

Left: FP3, Right: FP6

Let’s not forget that the screen technologies are completely different. My preference goes to the FP6 without hesitation, a truer rendering and far more comfortable for the eyes.

But it might take some getting used to when coming from 5 years of FP3.

Edit - the same image used by RMW. FP6 above.

I find that there’s a much greater difference between the screens in the photos, than my eyes discern when I just look at the screens side-by-side. It’s quite remarkable.

The photos in my posts were taken with the rear camera of a FP4.
