FP 5 with e/os Murena

Hello from Germany!
I have to buy a new phone and the Murena FP 5 e/os is in my mind. Reading comments here, it seems, that there have been quality issues on 2023 especially with the sound quality. Could users share their experience with me on that phone? How satisfied are you?
Thanks in advance!
Joerg

Maybe it would help to be a bit more specific what you are referring to?

Hi Joerg

In short. I bought a FP5 with eOS directly from Murena last June and it perfectly suits my use cases (I’m no heavy user, especially no social media or special demands on camera)
I’m satisfied with the hardware. Enough battery for 2 days.
Recently eOS gives the option to use the original camera software from fairphone too.
Sound with Fairbuds XL is absolutely ok for me.
Only problem I noticed: Using my old headset with the USB-C to Mini Jack adapter gives problems with the microphone. So I would advise to use a headset with a native usbC plug.
Hope that helps

Hey Joerg,
just in case you haven’t seen it yet, the e/OS Fairphone is available directly through the Fairphone shop now as well:

Yes I have seen it and will order it from Fairphone directly, if I have decided what to do.

Well, the FP2 I have with FP open source is a good example for bad speaker and microphone (software). I’ve read here in another topic, that the sound quality with e/os is not as good as with the google driven FP5. I want to have clear voices in my ear as well as a good transmission of my voice to the people that I am calling. In addition, the sound recorder in the open source FP2 is a disaster. So I want to have it better with a new FP.

Thanks for the answer. Concerning the camera software form Fairphone, is it already installed and if nit, where can I get it.

It is built in.
From eOs 2.4 release notes: " You’ll now be able to enjoy Fairphone’s default camera app on your Fairphone 5 to take pictures and videos if you want to. You just need to enable one setting in Settings > Apps > Fairphone Camera and reboot your phone"

Has anyone tried Tap to wake/sleep (DT2W)? Does it work? With current LineageOS 21 it doesn’t.

I have a FP5 for one year in the USA. I also have issues with the audio. It is not clear, with or without headphones. I do not know if it is a problem of the network but I suspect is the phone because the issue is persistent.
One particularly irritating think in the phone that appends in about 45% of the phone calls. When I initiate a call, the microphone initially does not work and the other person cannot ear me. I have to turn on and off the speaker and then the microphone will work.

Apart from that, it works OK.

Things might be different in the US.
@Fohlenelf it would still be good to know what exactly you read?

Edit a very few reports, unclear which OS is used

That seems to be the only issue I find that is reproducible

As a FP5 user in Germany (low useage) - I did not recognized any soundbugs.

Thanks so far for your answers. I think the only way to find out how the sound quality of the speakers, microphone and the recorder is, is to buy the FP5 e/os.

If you’re lucky there might be a community meeting ( Fairphone Community EVENTS :community_round: ) close to you where you could be able to try it out.
